About the Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced engineering professional to join a growing multidisciplinary engineering consultancy delivering a diverse portfolio of infrastructure and development projects across the United States.
The organisation provides engineering and technical consulting services to both public- and private-sector clients, supporting projects across a range of infrastructure, environmental and development sectors.
With a strong focus on technical quality, collaboration and long-term client relationships, the business offers an environment where experienced professionals can take ownership of projects, develop their technical expertise and contribute to the delivery of complex infrastructure solutions.
This is an opportunity to join an established engineering team with a strong pipeline of work and scope to take on greater technical responsibility and leadership as the business continues to grow.
The Role
We are looking for a Senior Civil Engineer with substantial experience in civil/site engineering and utility infrastructure design, particularly within the public sector and water and wastewater sectors.
The successful candidate will play a key role in the technical delivery of civil engineering projects, independently producing design packages and construction documentation while providing guidance and support to junior engineers and CAD designers.
Working closely with project managers, clients, multidisciplinary engineering teams and regulatory authorities, you will help deliver technically robust solutions that meet project requirements, regulatory standards and programme objectives.
This position would suit an experienced engineer who is confident managing technical design activities independently, coordinating multiple stakeholders and taking a leading role in project delivery.
Key Responsibilities

- Design and develop water distribution networks and associated infrastructure.
- Undertake sanitary sewer collection system design and related infrastructure planning.
- Support the design of pump stations and associated utility infrastructure.
- Coordinate utility relocations and interfaces with existing infrastructure.
- Develop site grading, drainage and stormwater management solutions.
- Prepare detailed engineering drawings, plan sets, profiles, technical details and construction documentation.
- Undertake engineering calculations and contribute to the preparation of technical specifications.
- Ensure designs comply with applicable engineering standards, regulatory requirements and local permitting processes.
Project Delivery & Coordination
- Support project managers in delivering engineering projects within agreed budgets and programmes.
- Coordinate design activities with internal engineering disciplines, external consultants and other project stakeholders.
- Participate in client meetings, technical design reviews and utility coordination discussions.
- Liaise with municipal authorities, regulatory agencies and other relevant stakeholders throughout the design and approval process.
- Support site investigations, field assessments and construction-phase engineering activities where required.
- Identify and resolve technical design challenges to maintain project progress and quality.
Technical Leadership & Team Development
- Provide technical guidance, supervision and mentoring to junior engineers and CAD design personnel.
- Review engineering drawings and technical deliverables to ensure accuracy, quality and compliance with relevant standards.
- Establish and promote consistent design methodologies, drafting standards and engineering best practices.
- Assist with resource planning, workload allocation and delegation of technical tasks across project teams.
- Support the development of technical capabilities within the wider engineering team.
- Independently prepare complete civil engineering design packages with limited supervision.
- Develop base mapping, site layouts and engineering alignments.
- Prepare profiles and utility plan-and-profile drawings.
- Produce grading, drainage and stormwater management drawings.
- Develop erosion and sediment control plans.
- Prepare construction details, technical notes and supporting documentation.
- Maintain accurate and organised design files and contribute to internal quality assurance and quality control processes.
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related discipline.
- At least seven years of progressive experience in civil/site engineering and utility infrastructure design.
- Significant experience delivering public-sector infrastructure projects, particularly involving water distribution and wastewater systems.
- Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D.
- Demonstrable experience leading, mentoring and supporting junior engineering staff and CAD designers.
- Ability to independently develop comprehensive engineering design packages and construction documentation with minimal supervision.
- Strong understanding of civil engineering design standards, permitting requirements and technical drawing production processes.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to coordinate effectively with clients, project managers, engineering consultants, contractors and regulatory authorities.
- Professional Engineer (PE) licence, or the ability to obtain professional registration within an agreed timeframe.
- Experience using MicroStation.
- Previous experience working with municipal clients, county authorities, water utilities and state agencies.
- Experience supporting construction administration, including reviewing Requests for Information (RFIs) and contractor submittals.
- Experience delivering complex municipal water and wastewater infrastructure projects.
The organisation offers a collaborative working environment that encourages technical development, professional progression and opportunities to take on greater responsibility.
The wider employee offering may include:
- Flexible and hybrid working arrangements, depending on project requirements.
- Opportunities for professional development, further education and technical accreditation.
- Career progression and opportunities to move into technical leadership.
- Medical, dental and vision insurance.
- Employer-provided life insurance and disability coverage.
- Additional voluntary insurance options.
- 401(k) retirement savings plan with employer contributions.
- Paid holidays and competitive paid time off arrangements.
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to contribute to a varied portfolio of infrastructure projects while developing their technical expertise and playing an important role in the continued development of the engineering team.
