Burns & McDonnell in California seeks a Senior Civil Engineer to lead civil design teams across a diverse set of projects, including power, healthcare and government facilities. You will oversee design through construction, manage budgets and schedules, and mentor junior engineers.

Excellent communication and QA/QC focus are essential as you collaborate with field teams, vendors and clients to deliver safe, compliant, and cost-effective solutions. Travel up to 25% is expected.

Qualifications

  • ABET-accredited civil engineering degree and 7+ years' civil experience; EPC project exp preferred.
  • FE exam passed or in progress; CA PE license preferred.
  • Master's degree in Civil Engineering with 6+ years' experience; EPC exp preferred.
  • Strong proficiency in AutoCAD, MicroStation, BIM (Revit) and civil analysis tools.

Responsabilités

  • Lead civil design teams from concept through design completion per project needs.
  • Prepare civil equipment, RFQs, technical bid summaries, and purchase recommendations.
  • Review vendor drawings and interface with suppliers, clients, and other disciplines.
  • Manage schedule, scope, budget, staffing and change orders.
  • Ensure quality and constructability; coordinate field inspections and testing.
  • Mentor junior engineers and provide leadership to the civil practice.
  • Develop cost proposals, qualification statements and project budgets.
  • Build client relationships and pursue new business opportunities.
  • Ensure compliance with safety policies and company standards.

Description

The Senior Civil Engineer will lead civil design project teams to create world class designs for new projects, alterations and redevelopments on a variety of projects including power, process, corporate, healthcare, pipeline, airports, institutional, industrial, manufacturing, government and military facilities. The Senior Civil Engineer will lead the project team throughout the design and construction process, adapting civil plans according to budget constraints, design factors or client needs.

  • Lead civil design of projects from the conceptual phase through design completion for project needs and requirements that are set forth by the project managers.

  • Prepare civil equipment: packaged equipment and construction specifications and data sheets, Request's for Qualifications (RFQ's), technical bid summaries, and purchase recommendations.

  • Review civil vendor drawings; data interface with suppliers, clients other engineering disciplines, detailers, designers.

  • Participate in development of project schedule, scope, budget staffing planning and construction planning. Responsible for effective management of change orders.

  • Applies expert knowledge of commonly used civil concepts, practices, codes and procedures within the civil engineering services industry. Compiles studies and reports. Writes specifications.

  • Applies knowledge and experience to complex projects, find's/develops non-standard design solutions.

  • Quality review production drawings for a variety of projects and project related data as required by the project managers to verify design compliance with project, client, and industry standards, including constructability.

  • Quality review the construction administration including coordination with field personnel to resolve design related installation issues, calculations, field inspections and testing of materials.

  • Leads field inspections, installation, measurements or calculations for public and private clients.

  • Prepare and present technical reports for clients and industry publications.

  • Build effective relationships with existing clients, customers and contractors and develop new business opportunities. Responsible for ensuring customer satisfaction goals and expectations are met.

  • Participate sales and marketing efforts and identify, lead and manage key pursuits.

  • Lead the development of cost proposals and qualification statements to achieve stated targets and standards for financial performance.

  • Prepare, present and manage project budgets and cost estimates. Report project performance.

  • Provide leadership, guidance and instruction to the civil engineering practice. Mentor and guide less experienced engineers.

  • Responsible for QA/QC process adherence.

  • Responsible for effective communication with other engineering disciplines.

  • Responsible for compliance with company and site safety policies.

  • Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications
  • Bachelor Degree in Civil Engineering or related degree from an ABET accredited program and 7 years civil engineering experience. EPC project experience preferred.

  • Bachelor Degree in Civil or related Engineering Technology from an ABET accredited program and successful completion of Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam and 7 years civil engineering experience. EPC project experience preferred.

  • Master Degree in Civil Engineering and 6 years civil engineering experience. EPC project experience preferred.

  • Expert knowledge in standard engineering techniques and procedures. Strong computer skills (e.g. AutoCAD, MicroStation, BIM (Revit), Civil 3D, PLS, PLS-CADD, RISA-3D, MathCADD), and/or hydraulic, hydrologic, pavement, civil analysis programs.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Experience with leading the discipline design for large projects and delegating work tasks to team members. Ability to lead execution of work and resolve issues in a team environment.

  • Demonstrated critical thinking skills, ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment.

  • Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to perform quality reviews for detailed engineering documents and specifications.

  • Ability to travel.

  • Professional Engineer (PE) License for California preferred.

Preferred
  • Active Registered Professional Engineer in the State of California, or ability to obtain a California licensure within six months of hire.

  • Experience mentoring junior staff and overseeing deliverables.

Compensation

$150,000.00-220,000.00 Yearly

The expected compensation range for this position is displayed in compliance with all local/state regulations. The expected compensation range for this position is based on a number of factors, including but not limited to: individual education, qualifications, prior work experience and work location. The total annual compensation package will consist of a base salary and eligibility to participate in our discretionary year-end incentive bonus program.
