Job summary

City of Ocala is seeking a semi-professional civil engineering technician to prepare design plans, studies, and construction estimates for City projects. Under a Licensed Professional Engineer, you will guide drafting teams and oversee design tasks for streets, utilities, and drainage systems.

Responsibilities include field investigations, cost estimation, plan reviews, and training of junior staff. Strong CAD/GIS proficiency and accurate documentation are essential for timely project delivery.

Qualifications

Graduation from a two-year college or technical school in design drafting, civil technology, surveying, or GIS, OR
A high school diploma with a focus in pre-engineering with advanced CAD or GIS coursework, plus eight years of related experience.
Experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis with appropriate training and work history.

Responsibilities

Plan production: design and drafting for streets, traffic, water, sewer, drainage and sidewalks; supervise technicians.
Estimate quantities and construction costs based on line items and quotes.
Perform field investigations and support engineering studies for City infrastructure projects.
Conduct field checks to verify information during drafting and design.
Research records for as-built construction or property information.
Review plans for quality and conformance to standards.
