Job summary

HDR, Inc. is seeking a Senior Civil Construction Inspector to lead field observations on civil infrastructure projects and ensure quality and safety on site.

The role involves mentoring junior staff, coordinating with project managers, and interpreting drawings and specifications to resolve issues. Ideal candidates hold a technical degree and have 5+ years of experience with DOT or civil construction projects.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• 5+ years experience in civil construction or related field.
• Proficient with MS Office (Word/Excel/Outlook).
• Strong written communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Must pass drug screening before hire; random and cause testing thereafter.
• Active participation in employee-owned culture is essential.

Responsibilities

• Conduct and document observations of construction for civil projects (roads, bridges, water/wastewater, pump stations, pipelines).
• Mentor junior field staff and provide supervision as needed.
• Collaborate with Project Managers and field representatives.
• Read and interpret construction drawings and specifications; identify discrepancies.
• Serve as the most senior inspector on projects when required.
• Perform other duties as needed.

In the role of Senior Civil Construction Inspector, we'll count on you to:

• Conduct and document observations of construction as it progresses for civil projects related to civil infrastructure, such as roads, bridges, water/wastewater facilities, pump stations and pipelines
• Mentor junior field staff and provide supervision as needed
• Collaborate with other field representatives or Project Managers
• Read and interpret construction drawings and specifications, and identify discrepancies or conflicts within the documents
• Conduct and document observations of construction as it progresses
• Serve as the most senior inspector on projects as needed
• Perform other duties as needed

Preferred Qualifications

• Technical school or Associate degree
• Relevant Industry Certifications
• DOT experience preferred
• The following DOT, or equivalent, technician certifications are desired:
  • OSHA 10 Safety Training Construction - Asphalt
  • Roadway Paving Inspector
  • Asphalt Plant Technician
  • Class 1 Concrete Technician
  • Soils and Aggregate Technician
  • Nuclear Gauge Training
  • EPSC TDEC Level I
  • Guardrail Installation Training
• Ability to interpret construction schedules

Required Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent
• A minimum of 5 years experience
• Proficient with MS Office (Word/Excel/Outlook)
• Strong written communication skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• This position typically requires successfully passing drug-screening procedures prior to being hired; thereafter subject to random and cause drug and alcohol testing
