Job summary

The City of Temple seeks a Principal Planner to lead complex planning projects, coordinate short- and long-range planning efforts, and analyze research data. The role requires collaboration with the Director and various commissions to advance the city’s growth and land use goals.

Ideal candidates hold a Bachelor's in Planning (or related field) with five years of municipal planning and zoning experience; a Master’s degree and AICP certification are preferred and highly regarded.

Qualifications

  • Requires a combination of education and experience equivalent to a Bachelor's degree in Planning or related field.
  • Five (5) years of experience in municipal planning and zoning.

Responsibilities

  • Determines data needs for complex planning studies and collects, analyzes, and evaluated the data.
  • Prepares reports, projects, and exhibits as needed.
  • Participates in long-range planning studies and annexation studies.
  • Develops and implements short-range land use plans including rezoning and variances.
  • Assists Director in preparation for Planning and Zoning Commission and City Council presentations.
  • Makes presentations to Planning Commission and other boards as needed.
  • Interprets and prepares amendments to zoning and subdivision ordinances.
  • Conducts plat and site plan reviews for new land development projects.
