Job summary

The City of Bend is seeking an Assistant City Attorney or Senior Assistant City Attorney to provide legal counsel to the City Council, City Manager, and staff. The role supports a growing, dynamic municipal government with opportunities to handle a wide range of public law matters, litigation, and advisory work.

Qualified candidates must hold a JD, be admitted to or eligible for the Oregon State Bar, and demonstrate strong research, drafting, and communication skills.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school.
• 0-5 years of attorney experience or equivalent.
• Active Oregon State Bar membership or eligibility.
• Valid driver's license per City policy.

Responsibilities

• Provide professional legal services to the City under direction of the City Attorney, Deputy City Attorney, and Senior Assistant City Attorneys.
• Attend City Council, Planning Commission and other City committee/board meetings to address legal issues and advise on compliance with public meetings, records and ethics laws.
• Draft contracts, ordinances, resolutions, intergovernmental agreements, property transaction documents and legal memoranda.
• Represent the City in courts, administrative proceedings, and other forums as needed.
• Provide day-to-day legal advice to City Manager, department heads and staff.
• Participate in litigation as directed by the City Attorney and support strategic litigation planning.
