Programming.com is seeking a Senior Citrix XenServer & VDI Engineer for a permanent, full-time role. You will architect, configure, and manage Citrix XenServer and Virtual Apps & Desktops environments supporting 400+ virtual desktops in a remote enterprise setting, driving VMware-to-XenServer migrations and image management.

Detailed Job Description

As a Senior Citrix XenServer & VDI Engineer supporting Programming.com on a remote basis, you will take full operational, tactical, and technical ownership of Citrix Hypervisor resource pools, machine catalogs, MCS/PVS image management, and complex virtualization migrations. Your day-to-day responsibilities include executing seamless VMware-to-XenServer migrations with minimal user disruption, building and optimizing golden images, maintaining HPE ProLiant server hardware and SAN storage, and automating infrastructure workflows via PowerShell. You will operate in a collaborative remote enterprise environment while partnering closely with global IT infrastructure squads and technical stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

• Architect, build, configure, and manage Citrix XenServer and Citrix Hypervisor hosts, resource pools, and high-availability clusters.
• Integrate and administer Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops, including Delivery Controllers, hosting connections, and machine catalogs.
• Plan and execute complex VMware vSphere to XenServer VDI migrations at scale (400+ desktops) with minimal user downtime or disruption.
• Build, optimize, and maintain standardized golden images utilizing Machine Creation Services (MCS) and Provisioning Services (PVS).
• Troubleshoot complex VDI performance bottlenecks, user logon issues, profile corruption, and application delivery failures promptly.
• Administer enterprise hardware infrastructure including HPE ProLiant servers, storage repositories, SAN fabrics, and core networking.
• Automate infrastructure provisioning, patching, and migration workflows utilizing PowerShell, Citrix PowerShell SDK, and the xe CLI.
• Implement rigorous security hardening, active directory group policies, migration runbooks, rollback procedures, and operational handovers.

Required Qualifications & Skills

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Systems Engineering, or related technical discipline.
• Minimum of 8+ years of progressive professional hands‑on experience in enterprise virtualization, infrastructure engineering, and VDI support.
• Strong, demonstrable operational expertise working extensively with Citrix XenServer, Citrix Hypervisor, and Citrix Virtual Apps & Desktops.
• Comprehensive working knowledge and practical proficiency in VMware vSphere / ESXi 7.x or 8.x environments and migration strategies.
• Deep practical experience managing large-scale VDI deployments (400+ desktops) with robust MCS/PVS image management capabilities.
• Solid practical grasp of HPE ProLiant servers, storage arrays, SAN architectures, Windows Server, Active Directory, DNS, and Group Policy.
• Exceptional proficiency in PowerShell scripting and automation for infrastructure configuration and maintenance.
• Mandatory legal work authorization and availability for remote operations with a one‑time onsite visit required for joining.

Nice-to-Have Skills

• Advanced professional certifications such as Citrix Certified Expert – Virtualization (CCEE/CC‑V) or VMware Certified Professional (VCP‑DCV).
• Prior professional working experience in top‑tier global IT consulting firms, managed service providers (MSPs), or enterprise data centers.
• Hands‑on familiarity with cloud infrastructure platforms (AWS, Azure) and hybrid virtualization deployment architectures.
