Job summary

SPL is seeking a Senior Chemist for our environmental lab in Conroe, TX. You will lead advanced trace metals analysis and method development, guiding a team and ensuring data integrity and regulatory compliance. This hands-on, senior-role requires mentorship and strong problem-solving in a fast-paced lab.

The position emphasizes expert instrumentation, method optimization, and collaboration with leadership to drive lab performance and quality across EPA methods and QA/QC processes.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Environmental Science, or a related scientific field.
• 5+ years of progressive analytical lab experience in a regulated environment.
• Hands-on experience with ICP and ICP-MS instrumentation (operation, calibration, maintenance).
• Experience with analytical method development, validation/verification, transfer and optimization.
• Strong knowledge of QA/QC, data integrity, CAPA, EPA methods, and NELAC/TNI requirements.

Responsibilities

• Provide senior technical guidance, resolve escalations, and support workflow and turnaround priorities.
• Perform advanced trace metals analysis on environmental and QC samples per EPA methods and lab procedures.
• Review and validate analytical data, QA/QC, and LIMS docs to identify instrument drift and anomalies.
• Develop, validate, transfer, and optimize analytical methods and SOPs; create controlled documentation.
• Train and mentor staff on methods, instrumentation, QA/QC, and troubleshooting.
• Operate and maintain ICP and ICP-MS instrumentation including calibration and maintenance.
• Lead investigations of nonconformances, CAPA, and root cause analysis.
• Support audits and regulatory compliance, including data integrity.
