SiPhox Health is building a first-of-its-kind consumer diagnostics platform that brings complex biochemical analysis into the home through integrated silicon photonics, microfluidics, embedded systems, and advanced assay development. Our chip-based solution integrates state-of-the-art biochemistry, photonics, electronics, and microfluidics to deliver the power of large laboratory instruments in a portable device.
We are seeking an exceptional Chemist or Senior Chemist with solid expertise in organic and solid-phase chemistry, along with deep experience in bioconjugation and purification — particularly with antibodies — to join an exciting, externally funded project pushing the boundaries of continuous monitoring of complex biological systems. In this role, you will develop novel chemistry schemes, validate them using analytical tools and internal assay configurations, and support both R&D and commercialization efforts across the organization. If you are passionate about driving innovation and making a tangible impact in biotechnology, we invite you to join us at this frontier.
What You\'ll Own
Synthesis & Conjugation
- Synthesize bioconjugates and nanoparticles using established chemistries.
- Develop new bioconjugation and nanoparticle conjugation methodologies.
- Optimize protein, antibody, and nanoparticle conjugation methods for performance and scalability.
Purification & Characterization
- Purify bioconjugates and nanoparticle conjugates using techniques including size exclusion chromatography (SEC), ion-exchange chromatography (IEX), affinity chromatography, and hydrophobic interaction chromatography (HIC).
- Optimize purification methods for yield, purity, and reproducibility.
- Characterize bioconjugates and nanoparticle conjugates using UV/Vis spectroscopy, fluorescence, HPLC, and mass spectrometry (MS).
- Perform functional verification through internal immunoassay configurations.
Documentation & Compliance
- Maintain accurate, complete, and timely laboratory records and notebooks in compliance with ISO 13485, FDA 21 CFR 820, 21 CFR Part 11, EU Medical Device Regulation 93/42/EEC, and EU MDR/2017, where applicable.
- Stay current with relevant scientific literature; conduct project-related information searches and literature reviews as needed.
- Demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills; maintain formal company documentation as required.
Problem Solving & Collaboration
- Solve complex technical problems by analyzing situations and data, exercising sound scientific judgment within broadly defined practices and policies to reach appropriate conclusions and follow-up actions.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with R&D, assay development, engineering, and operations teams.
Note: SiPhox Health is a fast-paced startup. This is a fully in-person role that may occasionally require extended hours to meet project deadlines.
What We\'re Looking For
Required Qualifications
- M.S. or Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry, Biochemistry, or a related field, or equivalent industry experience.
- 2–8 years of experience in the production, purification, and characterization of conjugate molecules at research and medium scales.
- Experience with bioconjugates or drug delivery modalities such as targeted peptides, oligonucleotides, or antibody–drug conjugates (ADCs), including site-specific approaches.
- In-depth familiarity with laboratory equipment and strict adherence to laboratory safety protocols.
Preferred Qualifications
- Direct experience in immunoassay method development, optimization, and data analysis; proficiency in Python, R, or MATLAB is a plus.
- CLIA laboratory experience.
- Experience with point-of-care and/or at-home diagnostic devices.
- Experience with label-free sensors.
- Experience with biochips, microarrays, and microfluidics.
KPIs (Success Measures)
- Synthesis and purification throughput — number of well-controlled, documented conjugation and purification runs completed per quarter; yield, purity, and reproducibility of results.
- Characterization rigor — quality and completeness of analytical data (UV/Vis, HPLC, MS) supporting conjugate validation.
- Compliance and documentation — timeliness and completeness of laboratory records per ISO 13485 / FDA 21 CFR 820 / 21 CFR Part 11 standards.
- Cross-functional collaboration — quality and timeliness of technical support provided to R&D, assay development, engineering, and operations teams.
Who Thrives Here
You set ambitious goals and consistently deliver outstanding, measurable results. You demonstrate absolute personal integrity and credibility, and thrive in a small-team environment while delivering outsized impact. You\'re driven by a genuine passion for scientific excellence — a calculated risk-taker who challenges conventional approaches and pursues creative solutions. You\'re a strategic thinker with the ability to approach problems from first principles.
