Job summary

Howmet Aerospace is seeking a Sr. Materials Engineer for the Howmet Research Center in Whitehall, Michigan.

This role focuses on ceramic materials used in aerospace investment cast components, including raw material processing and laboratory testing to support product quality and process improvements. The candidate will perform root cause analysis, provide hands-on and remote support for ceramic core/shell mold manufacturing, and collaborate with technical teams and suppliers.

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited BS in Materials Science, Materials Engineering, Ceramic Engineering or related field.
• 1+ years of relevant experience.
• Experience in processes to manufacture engineered ceramics.
• Familiarity with laboratory testing techniques for nonmetallic materials including microscopy, density, particle size, MOR and dilatometry.
• Ability to communicate with suppliers, production facilities, technical teams and leadership.
• Strong reasoning and critical thinking skills to drive root cause and resolution of product and process challenges.

Responsibilities

• Serve as SME in ceramic materials for aerospace investment cast components, including raw material processing and laboratory testing.
• Provide hands-on and remote support of ceramic core and shell mold manufacturing and material engineering support.
• Collaborate with suppliers and internal teams; travel up to 15% as needed.
• Participate in training in specialized areas involved with the role.
