Our client is searching for a Senior Category Development Manager who will play a pivotal role in driving category growth strategies across our distribution network. This role involves analyzing market trends, customer needs, and competitive dynamics to develop and execute category plans that enhance our product offerings and optimize sales performance. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in category management, a strong analytical mindset, and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver results that align with the company’s strategic objectives.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Category Strategy Development:
- Lead the development and execution of category strategies that drive growth, profitability, and market share within assigned categories.
- Conduct in-depth market analysis, including competitive assessments, consumer insights, and trend evaluations, to identify opportunities for category expansion and innovation.
- Collaborate with the Sales, Marketing, and Merchandising teams to align category strategies with overall business goals and customer needs.
Category Management & Optimization:
- Oversee the end-to-end management of product categories, including product selection, pricing, placement, and promotion strategies.
- Utilize data analytics to monitor category performance, identify key drivers of sales and profitability, and make data-driven recommendations for improvement.
- Develop and implement category plans that optimize product assortments, enhance customer experience, and increase sales across all channels.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key customers (internal & external) and vendors, understanding their needs and working collaboratively to develop tailored category solutions.
- Lead category reviews with internal and external customers, presenting insights, category performance, and strategic recommendations to enhance category growth and customer satisfaction.
- Negotiate with suppliers to secure favorable terms, pricing, and promotional support that align with category objectives.
Leadership & Team Development:
- Provide leadership and mentorship to Category Development Managers, fostering a high-performance culture and supporting their professional growth.
- Lead cross-functional teams in the execution of category initiatives, ensuring alignment and collaboration across departments.
- Act as a key advisor to senior management on category development issues, trends, and opportunities.
Innovation & Trend Analysis:
- Stay informed about industry trends, consumer behavior, and emerging technologies that can impact category performance and growth.
- Drive innovation within categories by identifying and capitalizing on new product opportunities, packaging formats, and merchandising strategies.
- Collaborate with the Product Development team to bring new products to market that meet evolving customer preferences and market demands.
Reporting & Analysis:
- Prepare and present detailed reports on category performance, including key metrics such as sales growth, market share, and customer satisfaction.
- Use data-driven insights to inform strategic decisions and provide actionable recommendations to improve category performance.
- Monitor and evaluate the success of category initiatives, adjusting strategies as needed to achieve desired outcomes.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE
- Bachelors’ degree in Business Administration, Marketing, or a related field. Masters’ degree preferred.
- Minimum of 7 years experience in category management, product management, or a related role within a retail or distribution environment.
- Previous experience within the CPG industry is required.
- Proven track record of developing and executing successful category strategies that drive sales growth and profitability.
- Strong analytical skills with experience in data analysis, financial modeling, and performance tracking.
- Excellent leadership and team management skills, with experience leading cross-functional teams.
- Proficiency in category management tools, data analytics software, and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong communication, negotiation, and presentation skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.
SALARY: Up to $150,000 based on experience
