Job summary

Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance in New York seeks an experienced Casualty Underwriter to join the Casualty team. The role focuses on expanding the book of business and developing broker and client relationships in the New York Region.

Ideal candidates have at least 5 years in casualty underwriting or broking, strong underwriting acumen, existing broker and customer relationships, and the ability to work independently and in a team while traveling as required.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years Casualty underwriting or broking experience.
• Strong underwriting acumen.
• Existing broker & customer relationships.
• Ability to work independently and to collaborate with all levels and disciplines.
• Strong communication skills including advanced negotiation and presentation experience.
• Willing to travel as required.

Responsibilities

• Develop and grow the Casualty book of business including primary general liability, lead umbrella, and excess liability for various classes (e.g. General Casualty, Energy, Transportation, and Products).
• Establish, develop, and expand broker and customer relationships in the New York Region.
• Work closely with loss control, claims, and legal teams to evaluate risk and provide solutions to customers.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, multi-task, and make quick decisions while maintaining underwriting integrity.
• Maintain a profitable renewal book.
• Attend customer and broker meetings.
