Job summary

Munich Reinsurance America, Inc. is seeking a Senior Casualty Treaty Underwriter to manage underwriting, pricing and risk assessment for a diverse Casualty treaty portfolio.

The role involves client and broker negotiations, audits, and collaboration with senior management to refine underwriting processes. The ideal candidate has extensive Casualty treaty experience, strong negotiation and communication skills, and willingness to travel up to 25% for audits and client visits.

Qualifications

• 15+ years of primary insurance and/or reinsurance experience.
• Underwriting knowledge of Casualty Treaty and niche classes; including actuarial concepts, industry trends, accounting and legal a plus.
• Experience in primary and/or reinsurance General Liability, Umbrella, Auto, Excess Liability, Professional Liability, or Other specialty underwriting a plus.
• Strong interpersonal and social skills; team player.
• Strong negotiation, oral and written communication skills; Excellent presentation skills.

Responsibilities

• Underwrite, price and support a portfolio of new and renewal General Casualty treaty reinsurance business in accordance with Munich Re US guidelines, strategy and profitability standards.
• Perform risk analysis and coverage evaluation, pricing, and contract negotiations to maintain a profitable Casualty portfolio.
• Underwrite and price Casualty treaty reinsurance in line with Division strategy and guidance; supervise junior underwriters.
• Understand main Commercial and Personal Casualty lines and niche products; engage with clients and brokers.
• Attend industry conferences, seminars, and marketing events.
• Lead projects for underwriting process improvements and strategy development in Casualty lines.
• Develop proficiency in Munich Re pricing models and risk evaluation tools.
