Job summary

NetApp, Inc. is seeking a Software Engineer, Cassandra, on the StorageGRID team. You will design and implement Java Cassandra features, work on distributed database internals, and strengthen upgradeability and reliability for enterprise workloads.

This role is ideal for an experienced hands-on engineer who thrives in distributed systems, open-source collaboration, and high-quality code reviews within a mission-critical object storage product.

Qualifications

• 8-12 years of backend, systems, database, storage, or distributed systems experience.
• Strong programming skills in Java; knowledge of Python/Go/C/C++ a plus.
• Hands-on experience with Apache Cassandra or similar distributed NoSQL databases.
• Solid understanding of replication, consistency, partitioning, failure handling, and cluster coordination.
• Experience designing and debugging complex systems in Linux-based, scale-out environments.
• Excellent communication and collaboration across distributed teams.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement Java-based Cassandra features with end-to-end ownership.
• Translate requirements into Cassandra designs for scalability, upgradeability, and operations.
• Lead performance analysis, benchmarking, and system tuning for StorageGRID deployments.
• Collaborate with StorageGRID engineering, QA, product management, supportability, and field teams.
• Drive Cassandra initiatives from design to release readiness.
