The City of Newburgh is seeking a Supervising Cashier responsible for handling public money and leading a team. Applicants must have a high school diploma and experience with financial transactions. This role includes supervisory duties and public interaction, ensuring accurate handling of funds.

Performs responsible work involving the receipt and accounting for public monies on a large scale; does related work as required. Assists the City Collector with the monthly closing/reconciliation of all City wide receipts; Assists the City Collector with billing; does related work as required.
This is responsible public contact work involving the receipt and accounting for public monies on large scale and the coordination of the work of others engaged in these functions. The supervising cashier is responsible for the consolidation of the monies received for deposit and the maintenance of the control records of receipts. The work is performed under general supervision, and acts in the absence, of the City Collector.
Supervises and participates in the consolidation of receipts and the preparation of deposit slips; Supervises and participates in the checking of control records of receipts and expenditures for arithmetic and clerical accuracy and completeness and proper extension; Receives large amounts of money over counter, by mail or electronically in payment for a wide variety of bills and obligations; Answers requests for information and conducts correspondence; Instructs employees in the specialized details of the work; Operates calculating, computing and other office machines.
Thorough knowledge of modern methods used in keeping and checking financial receipts; thorough knowledge in office terminology, procedures and equipment; thorough knowledge of business English; ability to handle money rapidly and accurately; ability to detect counterfeit money; ability to understand and carry out complex oral and written directions; ability to make arithmetic computations rapidly and accurately; ability to deal effectively with the public; ability to secure the cooperation of others; mental alertness; neatness; good judgment; a very high degree of accuracy; good hearing and eyesight; integrity; tact and courtesy; good physical condition.
Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and four years’ experience in public contact work involving the handling and accounting for large amounts of money, which shall include two years of supervisory experience.
Two years of permanent status as a Cashier with the City of Newburgh.
Must be eligible for "bonding" by a commercial Bonding or Insuring Company.
