Job description

The International Rescue Committee (IRC) responds to the world's worst humanitarian crises, helping to restore health, safety, education, economic wellbeing, and power to people devastated by conflict and disaster. Founded in 1933 at the call of Albert Einstein, the IRC is one of the world's largest international humanitarian non-governmental organizations (INGO), operating in more than 40 countries and 29 U.S. cities, helping people survive, reclaim control of their future, and strengthen their communities. IRC employees deliver lasting impact by restoring safety, dignity, and hope to millions. If you're a solutions-driven, passionate change-maker, join us in positively impacting lives worldwide for a better future.

This job posting was opened on June 11, 2025. We will prioritize current IRC staff and recently employed staff before external candidates, and may extend the opportunity accordingly.

BACKGROUND:

The IRC's Resettlement, Asylum, and Integration (RAI) department creates opportunities for refugees and vulnerable migrants to gain stability and control of their future. RAI serves over 100,000 individuals annually through programs focused on five core outcomes: Health, Safety, Economic Wellbeing, Education, and Power.

SCOPE OF WORK:

The Senior Unaccompanied Children Caseworker provides trauma-informed case management and care coordination services to unaccompanied children and their households enrolled in IRC's Unaccompanied Children's Crisis Assistance Program (UCCAP). This privately funded, 12-month program supports children and young adults (0-21) who entered the U.S. without a parent or guardian and are designated as unaccompanied children. The Senior Caseworker offers remote, brief intervention services to help clients access resources and services that enhance their safety and stability across areas such as housing, medical, mental health, education, and protection. The role reports to the Program Officer and assists in resource identification and cultivation in the client's service area.

*This role must be based in the Pacific or Mountain time zones.

Major Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Conduct initial intake and assessment with children, young adults, and/or household members.
  • Develop individual and family service plans to guide trauma-informed case management services.
  • Provide case management to ensure progress on service plans, assisting clients in accessing legal, health, mental health, and educational services.
  • Continuously assess changes impacting clients' safety, wellbeing, and success.
  • Offer crisis intervention, develop safety plans, and involve Child Protective Services if necessary.
  • Use child-centered, developmentally appropriate, trauma-informed approaches.
  • Maintain understanding of trauma-informed principles, protection, safeguarding, and mandatory reporting.
  • Document all case activities, referrals, and outcomes accurately and timely.
  • Build relationships with community service providers.
  • Maintain confidentiality and accurate records in electronic case files.
  • Provide direct and cash assistance for urgent needs.
  • Assist the Project Manager in resource identification and client workshops.

Job Requirements include but are not limited to:

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Fluency in Spanish and English, both written and verbal.
  • At least two years of related experience working with children, family reunification, kinship care, foster care, or child welfare, or one year with a master's degree.
  • Experience working with immigrant populations; unaccompanied children experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of safety net systems and social services navigation.
  • Ability to work effectively in various global environments.
  • Proven ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Self-starter with strong problem-solving skills and time management.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Teams, Zoom, and other platforms.

Working Environment:

  • The Senior Caseworker provides virtual case management. Flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, may be required. A private, dedicated workspace is necessary.

Compensation: Pay ranges are based on location, experience, and skills. Exact offers depend on individual circumstances.

Equal Opportunity Employer: IRC considers all applicants based on merit, regardless of race, gender, religion, or other protected characteristics.

US Benefits: Includes paid time off, medical, dental, vision, FSA, retirement plans, disability, life insurance, and Employee Assistance Program.

Standards of Professional Conduct: IRC staff must adhere to the IRC Way - our Code of Conduct, emphasizing Integrity, Service, Accountability, and Equality.
