Job description

The International Rescue Committee (IRC) responds to the world's worst humanitarian crises, helping to restore health, safety, education, economic wellbeing, and power to people devastated by conflict and disaster. Founded in 1933 at the call of Albert Einstein, the IRC is one of the world's largest international humanitarian non-governmental organizations (INGO), operating in more than 40 countries and 29 U.S. cities. IRC employees deliver lasting impact by restoring safety, dignity, and hope to millions. If you're a solutions-driven, passionate change-maker, join us in positively impacting lives worldwide for a better future.

This job was opened on June 11, 2025. Priority will be given to current or recently employed IRC staff before external candidates.

Background:

The IRC's Resettlement, Asylum, and Integration (RAI) department creates opportunities for refugees and vulnerable migrants to gain stability and control of their future. RAI serves over 100,000 individuals annually through programs focused on five core outcomes: Health, Safety, Economic Wellbeing, Education, and Power.

Scope of Work:

The Senior Unaccompanied Children Caseworker provides trauma-informed case management and care coordination to unaccompanied children and their households enrolled in IRC's Unaccompanied Children's Crisis Assistance Program (UCCAP), a 12-month program supporting children and young adults (0-21) who entered the U.S. without a parent or guardian. The role involves remote, brief intervention services to support clients in accessing resources across housing, medical, mental health, education, and protection sectors. The Senior Caseworker reports to the Program Officer and assists in resource identification.

This position must be based in either the Eastern or Central time zones.

Major Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  1. Conduct initial intake and assessment with children, young adults, or household members.
  2. Develop individual and family service plans for trauma-informed case management.
  3. Provide case management to support progress on service plans, helping access legal, health, mental health, and educational services.
  4. Assess ongoing conditions impacting safety and wellbeing.
  5. Provide crisis intervention, develop safety plans, and involve Child Protective Services if needed.
  6. Use child-centered, trauma-informed approaches to address needs and concerns.
  7. Maintain understanding of trauma-informed principles, protection, safeguarding, and mandatory reporting.
  8. Document case meetings, referrals, and progress accurately.
  9. Build relationships with community service providers.
  10. Maintain confidentiality and accurate records in electronic systems.
  11. Provide direct and cash assistance for urgent needs.
  12. Assist the Project Manager in resource identification and client workshops.

Job Requirements include but are not limited to:

  1. Bachelor's degree required.
  2. Fluency in Spanish and English.
  3. At least two years of related experience working with children and families, or one year with a master's degree.
  4. Experience with immigrant populations and unaccompanied children preferred.
  5. Knowledge of social services and safety net systems.
  6. Ability to work effectively in diverse environments.
  7. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Teams, Zoom, and other platforms.

Working Environment:

  • Remote case management with flexible hours, including evenings and weekends. A private workspace is required.

Compensation: Pay ranges are based on location, experience, and skills. Exact offers depend on individual circumstances.

Equal Opportunity Employer: IRC considers all applicants based on merit, regardless of race, sex, color, national origin, religion, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status, disability, or other legally protected characteristics.

US Benefits: Includes paid time off, holidays, medical, dental, vision, FSA, retirement plans, disability, life insurance, and an Employee Assistance Program.
