Job summary

Vanderbilt Health in Nashville is seeking an experienced Cardiovascular Perfusionist to prepare for clinical procedures, safely and accurately operate perfusion equipment, and monitor patient physiology according to established perfusion policies, protocols, and procedures.

The role includes participation in the Cardiovascular Perfusion Technology Program (CVPT) through clinical, didactic, or simulation instruction; research via collaborations and data analysis; development of quality standards

Qualifications

• Certifications in Cardiovascular Perfusion and related licensure.
• Graduate of an approved discipline-specific perfusion program.
• 5 years of work experience in perfusion or related field.

• Prepare for clinical procedures and operate perfusion equipment while monitoring patient physiology per policies.
• Participate in the CVPT program through clinical, didactic, and/or simulation instruction.
• Engage in research through collaborations, data collection and analysis, and publication.

Job description

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare for clinical procedures and safely, accurately and effectively operate perfusion equipment while monitoring patient physiology according to established VUMC perfusion policies, protocols, and procedures.
• Participate in the Vanderbilt Cardiovascular Perfusion Technology Program (CVPT) through two or more of the following: Clinical, Didactic, and/or Simulation Instruction.
• Research through academic collaborations, data collection and analysis, and publication.
• Develop or enhance quality standards in cardiovascular perfusion that promote safety and protection of patients.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

Technical Capabilities

• Equipment Maintenance (Intermediate) – Demonstrates mastery of preventive maintenance in practical applications of a difficult nature. Possesses sufficient knowledge, training, and experience to successfully maintain equipment, products, or systems without requiring support and instruction from others. Able to conduct predictive maintenance on core products and equipment.
• Medical Terminology & Documentation (Intermediate) – Demonstrates mastery of medical terminology and documentation in practical applications of a difficult nature. Possesses sufficient knowledge, training, and experience to successfully deliver results without requiring support and instruction from others. Able to train and educate by setting the example, giving instruction, providing leadership, and generally raising the level of performance of others while on the job.
• Procedures Knowledge (Intermediate) – Demonstrates mastery of procedures knowledge in practical applications of a difficult nature. Possesses sufficient knowledge, training, and experience to successfully deliver procedures knowledge services without requiring support and instruction from others. Able to train and educate by setting the example, giving technical instruction, providing leadership, and generally raising the level of performance of others while on the job.
• Cardiopulmonary Perfusion (Advanced) – Demonstrates the uppermost levels of expertise in applying cardiopulmonary perfusion knowledge in challenging and complex situations. Often takes a lead role in highly pressurized situations when there is a need to achieve results. Consistently delivers cardiovascular services in a creative and imaginative manner while setting a standard for others. Actively participates in outside professional organizations and forums. Contributes to the development of cardiovascular knowledge best practices for the organization.

Position Qualifications

Certifications: Certified in Cardiovascular Perfusion – American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion; LIC‑Clinical Perfusionist – Tennessee.

Work Experience: Relevant work experience required.

Experience Level: 5 years.

Education: Graduate of an approved discipline‑specific program.
