Position Overview
JR Enterprise (JRE) is seeking a qualified Board-Certified Cardiovascular Perfusionist to support the Richmond VA Healthcare System and its high-acuity cardiothoracic surgery program.
The Perfusionist will be responsible for providing extracorporeal circulation and advanced cardiovascular support during cardiac and thoracic surgical procedures. The ideal candidate will have strong experience with open-heart surgery, valve replacement procedures, ECMO, cardiopulmonary bypass, autotransfusion, and advanced mechanical circulatory support technologies.
This is an excellent opportunity to work within a multidisciplinary cardiothoracic surgical team while supporting complex cardiac procedures and advanced patient care.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Operate and manage cardiopulmonary bypass/heart-lung machines during open-heart and cardiac surgical procedures.
- Provide perfusion support during open-heart and valve replacement procedures.
- Prepare, operate, troubleshoot, and maintain extracorporeal circulation equipment.
- Perform and manage autotransfusion and blood conservation procedures.
- Provide support for ECMO (Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation) and other advanced circulatory support systems.
- Operate and manage intra-aortic balloon pumps (IABP).
- Support the use of centrifugal ventricular assist devices (VADs).
- Provide experience and support with left and right heart bypass procedures.
- Monitor and manage blood flow, oxygenation, anticoagulation, temperature, and other physiologic parameters during cardiopulmonary bypass.
- Collaborate closely with cardiothoracic surgeons, anesthesiologists, nurses, and other members of the surgical team.
- Review patient medical records and surgical plans to ensure appropriate preparation before procedures.
- Ensure all required perfusion equipment and supplies are available, properly prepared, and functioning.
- Maintain accurate clinical documentation and procedure-related records.
- Follow patient safety, infection control, quality assurance, and applicable clinical standards.
- Participate in quality improvement and patient safety activities.
- Provide on-call support for urgent cardiothoracic and circulatory support cases as required.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Graduate of an accredited School of Perfusion Technology.
- Board Certified by the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion (ABCP).
- Minimum 2 years of professional perfusion experience.
- Minimum 200 clinical perfusion cases.
- Demonstrated experience with:
- Open-heart surgery
- Valve replacement procedures
- Autotransfusion
- Cardiopulmonary bypass / heart-lung machine
- ECMO
- Left and right heart bypass
- Intra-aortic balloon pumping (IABP)
- Centrifugal ventricular assist devices (VADs)
- Active perfusion license in any U.S. state, as applicable.
- Must be a U.S. citizen.
- Strong clinical judgment, communication, and teamwork skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a high-acuity cardiothoracic surgical environment.
