Job summary

BJCC seeks a Senior Capital Projects Manager to oversee capital improvement projects, plan budgets, and drive on-time, on-budget delivery. You will lead the projects department, coordinate with accounting, IT, and facilities, and ensure compliance with contracts and regulations.

Qualifications

• Ten+ years in multi-discipline construction project management.
• Bachelor’s degree in building science or engineering preferred.
• Draftsman competency strongly preferred.
• Certifications CMP, PgMP or CAPM preferred.

Responsibilities

• Establish and manage capital project budgets and timelines; provide status reports.

Senior Capital Projects Manager

Summary/Objective
The Senior Capital Projects Manager as directed by the Director of Capital Improvements is responsible for the oversight and management of the assigned BJCC capital improvement projects. This role is responsible for providing exceptional planning, and execution of capital projects. Responsibilities include sourcing, creating a project budget, managing the progress of the capital projects in progress and reviewing/approving project completion. The incumbent leads in the achievement of all project completion on time, quality and on budget. Working in collaboration with Accounting, IT, Facility Management etc.

This Senior Project Manager is a representative for the BJCC capital improvement projects in interactions with the BJCC, the public, contract partners and with governmental agencies.

This position requires a comprehensive knowledge of construction contracts and project management of the design and construction phases of facilities projects.

Demonstrates understanding and full performance ability in each of the following:

• Establish/approve and manager capital project budget, time objectives and provide project status reports.
• Hire, train, motivate and review the performance of the projects department team.
• Be responsible for all aspects of a project from the design stage to completion and handover to the Executives and Stakeholders.
• Communicate with stakeholders to clarify the desired outcome of a project.
• Work with engineers, architects, and other consultants to develop plans and specifications for assigned projects.
• Assist in developing bid documents and support the entire bid and selection process.
• Outline the tasks involved in the project and delegate accordingly.
• Conduct cost analysis, estimating expected costs for the project.
• Conduct risk assessments: report identified risks to management; provide recommendations for mitigating risk (including project termination if appropriate).
• Act as a liaison between the company, customers, and vendors.
• Ensures compliance with federal, state, local, industry, contractual, and company regulations, standards, specifications, and best practices.
• Manage the day-to-day operational aspects of a project.
• Coordinate all project activities with ongoing facility operations to minimize impact.
• Develop and manage all project documentation.
• Submit progress reports to stakeholders and senior managers.
• Ensure that all relevant processes are followed on projects.
• Manage project personnel within the scope of the role to achieve project objectives.
• Regularly review and analyze the project scope.
• Manage Stakeholder expectations.
• Negotiate with suppliers and subcontractors.
• Ensure that the highest quality standards are met.
• Track and manage cost reporting for all capital projects at BJCC.
• Make recommendations for future capital projects as required.

Work Environment
This position may have a moderate to extensive stress level associated with dealing with crowds of public visitors. The environment is mainly indoors, however position may be required to work outdoors and exposed to the elements (heat, rain, etc.) as required by project assignment demands.

Physical Demands

Position requires lifting, climbing, carrying, bending, stooping, squatting, and kneeling for extended periods of time. Extensive walking and standing. Ability to lift up to 50-pound items with or without assistance, while maintaining good balance. Must be flexible enough to reach above shoulder level and be able to push and pull for extended periods of time.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position; hours of work must be flexible and varied to meet the demands of the events of the facility. Must be able to work extended and/or irregular hours including day, nights, weekends, and holidays, as needed. This position may require limited local travel.

Required Education and Experience

• Minimum of ten (10) years related knowledge, experience, and skills in multi-discipline construction project management and architectural design work.
• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with an emphasis in building science or engineering is preferred or a combination of experience and education may be considered.
• Competency as a draftsman is strongly preferred.
• Professional certifications such as certifications (CMP, PgMP. CAPM) or comparable is strongly preferred.
• Valid State of Alabama Driver License.
