Job summary

FHLB Des Moines is seeking a Senior Capital Markets Analyst to perform quantitative analytics for balance sheet and portfolio management, including mortgage pricing and hedging strategies. You will work with fixed income tools and cross‑departmental teams to forecast cash flows and assess risk under various scenarios.

The role requires bachelor-level training in quantitative fields, 2–3 years of related experience, and proficiency with Excel/Visual Basic, plus SQL/R/Python and Power BI skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in finance, economics, mathematics, statistics or other quantitative/computing fields.
• At least 2-3 years of experience related to balance sheet management, fixed income, complex financial instruments or financial modeling and reporting.
• Advanced degree (Masters) or CFA charter holder or similar certification preferred.
• Highly proficient computer skills in Excel, Word, and Visual Basic.
• Experience with ALM, capital markets, balance sheet management and/or other financial software (QRM/Polypaths) preferred.
• Experience with scripting/programming languages such as SQL, R or Python preferred.
• Experience with dashboard tools such as Power BI preferred.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to work in a team-oriented environment.

Responsibilities

• Perform quantitative analytics for balance sheet management, portfolio management and pricing models including mortgage pricing and prepayment modeling.
• Develop models to measure risks from interest rates, prepayment, liquidity, capital management and income.
• Recommend hedging strategies for mortgage portfolios and analyze market trends.
• Research and validate models and reports; implement asset and liability modeling systems.
• Prepare committee reports for senior management and Board committees.
