Job summary

Geosyntec is seeking a Senior CAD Drafting Technician (Civil 3D) to support environmental, civil and geotechnical engineering projects from our Kennesaw, GA office (also in Austin, TX and Birmingham, AL). You will develop layouts, grading plans and details using Civil 3D and AutoCAD, translating concepts into precise drawings across landfills, utilities and industrial sites.

The role requires strong CAD skills, knowledge of AutoCAD, Civil 3D and GIS tools, plus the ability to mentor junior

Qualifications

• Associate’s Degree in drafting and a minimum of three years of experience performing CAD drafting in a professional engineering setting.
• Experience with AutiCAD/Civil 3D and ability to produce layouts, grading plans and details for civil projects.

Responsibilities

• Draft, edit, and finalize design plans and details using CAD drafting standards.
• Develop layouts, grading plans and details for civil engineering projects including landfills and utilities.
• Mentor CAD Drafting Technicians and support CAD standards improvements across the company.
• Coordinate with engineers to review and refine drawings for accuracy and quality.
• Operate plotters, printers and other output devices and ensure drawing sets are complete.

The position will support project needs by computer-aided design and drafting (CADD) for a variety of environmental, civil and geotechnical engineering design projects. Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Draft, edit, and finalize design plans and details using appropriate and efficient methods and adhering to Geosyntec drafting standards;
• Understand and visualize overall civil/geotechnical engineering concepts, such as grading, and translating abstract concepts to design drawings;
• Analyze sketches, notes and other input material to determine best approach to complete a drawing set;
• Manage the production of drawing sets from creation, markup and modification based on overall design;
• Transfer information from an engineering drawing to a final CAD drawing using appropriate symbols and drafting standards;
• Copy detailed plans and drawings and performing non-routine complex drafting assignments;
• Operate plotter, printer, scanner, and other input/output devices;
• Proofread CAD drawings for accuracy, format, and grammar;
• Assist with mentoring and overseeing CAD Drafting Technicians,
• Participate in the CAD Action Group, by supporting, networking, and collaborating to improve CAD standards and efficiencies across the company; and
• Work collaboratively with other Geosyntec CADD practitioners to prepare design drawings and details and reviewing completed work products to ensure quality.
• Drive personal, company, and rental vehicles to client or company project or office sites, and other business locations, as needed.

Skills, Experience and Qualifications

• Associate’s Degree in drafting and a minimum of three (3) years of experience performing CAD drafting work in a professional engineering setting, or five (5) years of equivalent combination of education, experience and training that provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities. (required)
• Successful Autodesk AutoCAD Certified Professional examination within the last 3 years. (preferred)
• Experience developing and working with grading plans, cross-sections, alignments, profiles, three-dimensional surfaces, and earthwork volumes for landfills and other large civil design projects. (required)
• Experience using/incorporating land or aerial surveying/mapping data and files. (required)
• Experience with stormwater management design. (preferred)
• Experience with ArcGIS and MicroStation. (preferred)
• Extensive experience using the latest releases of Autodesk AutoCAD. (required)
• Extensive knowledge of AutoCAD includes but is not limited to Annotation Styles, Multileaders, MTEXT, Dimensions, Sheet Sets, Paper Space / Model Space, XREFs, Layers, Dynamic Blocks, and Tool Palettes. (required)
• Basic understanding of the latest releases of Microsoft Windows, Outlook, Word, Excel, Skype, Adobe PDF, and Windows File Explorer. (required)
• Understanding of Civil 3D Annotation styles and annotation tools, basic understanding of key objects such as Surfaces, Alignments, Profiles, Profile Views, Pipe Networks and basic operations of performing Surface Analyses and Volume Calculations. (preferred)
• Strong reasoning, mathematical, and geometrical skills Ability to perform basic math skills including applying concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations, and fundamentals of geometry and trigonometry. (required)
• Ability to read, analyze and interpret red line drawings from Engineers, CAD Managers, or others on the project team.
• Strong communication skills to include the ability to understand and follow complex verbal and written instructions, and the ability to interact effectively to maintain a team environment. (required)
• Valid U.S. driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record for business travel. (required)
