Job summary

Milwaukee Tool in Milwaukee, WI is seeking a Principal CAD Designer for Hand Tools Engineering. You will lead advanced CAD workstreams, develop complex NX models, and ensure manufacturability and schedule alignment across engineering, industrial design, and prototyping labs.

You will mentor a small CAD team, balance workload, and drive standards and continuous improvement while collaborating with global resources to deliver tooling-ready designs from concept through release.

Qualifications

• Technical Associate Degree or equivalent.
• 7+ years CAD modeling, drafting, and product design support experience.
• Expert-level Siemens NX 3D CAD experience with complex surfacing and multi-component assemblies.
• Ability to work on quick-turn and longer-duration assignments.
• Knowledge of plastic molding, forging, die casting, sheet metal, machining and related processes.
• Strong communication skills.
• Self-directed and able to operate with limited direction; escalate when needed.
• GD&T understanding and drawings release knowledge (preferred).
• Experience leading or coordinating CAD designers (preferred).
• Ability to assess workload and communicate escalation needs (preferred).

Responsibilities

• Execute a wide range of CAD assignments from quick-turn modeling to complex surfacing and assemblies.
• Own CAD workstreams within large projects and ensure release-quality drawings.
• Create and maintain 3D models, drawings, assemblies, BOMs, and change docs in NX.
• Collaborate with engineers, designers, manufacturing and global CAD resources.
• Lead a small team of CAD designers while contributing as an individual contributor.
• Manage team loading, balance assignments by skills and capacity, set priorities.
• Coach CAD designers with guidance, reviews, and skill development.
• Anticipate CAD capacity, timing, quality risks and escalate needs early.
• Promote CAD standards and continuous improvement across the team.
• Support onboarding and broaden capability across products and tools.
