Job description

The Senior Cabling Engineer / Project Manager is responsible for the design, implementation, quality control, and management of inside and outside cabling/pathway infrastructure and telecommunications spaces.

This role ensures that infrastructure designs meet industry and organizational standards, supports capacity planning, oversees construction activities, manages Move/Add/Change (MAC) operations, and collaborates extensively with internal teams and external vendors.

The position also includes mentoring cabling engineers and participating in the development and maintenance of standards, documentation, and preventative maintenance plans.

Key Responsibilities
Infrastructure Design & Planning
  • Collaborate with network operations, network architecture, facilities, construction, and planning teams to develop infrastructure designs and cost estimates.
  • Ensure all designs comply with industry standards and organizational requirements for telecommunications rooms, pathways, inside/outside cabling, and data centers.
  • Lead capacity planning and manage records of copper and fiber cabling and outside pathways.
  • Oversee development of preventative maintenance plans and update documentation regularly.
Construction Oversight & Project Execution
  • Review and create infrastructure design documents, scopes of work, and bid materials.
  • Participate in design meetings, pre-construction job walks, and ongoing construction meetings.
  • Coordinate with contractors to ensure proper installation, quality assurance, and compliance with standards.
  • Inspect cabling materials and verify compliance with industry and organizational specifications.
  • Support and coordinate planned and unplanned infrastructure outages with relevant departments.
Operations & Technical Support
  • Oversee Move/Add/Change (MAC) activities across facilities.
  • Manage cabling activities related to moves, changes, additions, and repairs across telecommunications systems.
  • Work closely with contractors and telecommunications providers to resolve outages and minimize future disruptions.
  • Troubleshoot infrastructure issues and provide alternative solutions to senior management and operations teams.
  • Maintain a repository of design drawings, specifications, test results, and warranty documents.
Project Management & Stakeholder Engagement
  • Provide regular written status updates and develop communication plans for infrastructure upgrades.
  • Assist Project Managers in establishing deliverable timelines and identifying resource needs.
  • Review schedules and coordinate resources across multiple teams and vendors.
  • Engage operational teams to align on upcoming projects, building renovations, and departmental moves.
  • Mentor cabling engineers and support their development as subject matter experts.
Required Qualifications
  • 10+ years of progressively responsible experience in cabling infrastructure design, telecommunications systems, or related fields.
  • Experience with inside and outside plant cabling for fiber and copper infrastructures.
  • Strong understanding of telecommunications codes, standards, pathways, and grounding/bonding principles.
  • Ability to design, estimate, and manage implementation of large-scale cabling infrastructure projects.
  • Experience in reading/interpreting maps, blueprints, and electrical plans.
  • Strong project management skills including planning, scheduling, budgeting, documentation, and communication.
  • Proven ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to communicate with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong customer service and conflict-resolution skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Knowledge of California Building Codes, Electrical Codes, Fire Protection Codes, and applicable regulatory requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
  • Experience working in healthcare, large enterprise, or multi-building environments.
  • Experience coordinating with multiple contractors, vendors, and telecom providers.
  • Experience managing MAC operations and large enterprise cabling inventories.
Certifications
  • Building Industry Consulting Services International (BICSI) – Registered Communications Distribution Designer (RCDD)
  • OSHA 30 Certification
  • Additional telecommunications or infrastructure certifications (preferred)
