EPAM Systems is seeking a Senior/Lead Engineer with deep CA Gen expertise to join a large-scale mainframe modernization effort. You will translate complex legacy knowledge into detailed specs for modern replacements and help rebuild legacy applications with no on-call requirements.

This is a 100% remote role, with Senior and Lead levels considered. Responsibilities include analyzing CA Gen models and COBOL, creating specifications, validating migration approaches, reverse-engineering efforts,

Qualifications

• 5+ years of hands-on CA Gen experience including runtime and model internals.
• 5+ years of COBOL development experience.
• Strong understanding of CA Gen-generated COBOL code.
• Proven experience with mainframe modernization or migration projects.
• Ability to translate legacy logic into detailed specifications for replacement systems.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with legacy codebases.
• Excellent cross-functional communication.

Responsibilities

• Analyze existing CA Gen models, runtime framework, and generated COBOL to understand legacy logic.
• Create detailed specifications to support forward-engineering of replacements.
• Collaborate to design and validate migration approaches from CA Gen/mainframe to modern platforms.
• Support reverse-engineering to preserve business logic and rules.
• Partner with architects to align legacy behavior with new design.
• Identify risks and edge cases in legacy CA Gen models during modernization.
• Contribute to documentation of legacy architecture, data flows, and dependencies.
• Share CA Gen and COBOL expertise across the team.
