Job summary

Flagship Pioneering is seeking a UAS Flight Operations Engineer II to lead the operational framework for our fixed-wing UAV program in Boulder, CO. You will plan BVLOS missions, coordinate waiver strategies, and ensure real-time safety and regulatory compliance across diverse environments.

You will work with a small, expert team bridging engineering development and field execution, advancing from prototype flights to field‑proven operations while maintaining rigorous documentation and safety

Qualifications

• Requires FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot certificate and BVLOS/COA experience.
• Experience with fixed-wing UAVs in real-world missions is essential.
• Strong documentation habits for regulatory review and field reports.

Responsibilities

• Lead BVLOS operations planning and flight test execution, including waiver compliance and real-time monitoring.
• Own FAA Part 107 waiver strategy, COA applications, and international UAS regulatory compliance.
• Develop and maintain SOPs, pre-flight checklists, and emergency protocols for field campaigns.
• Serve as PIC and/or flight test director for fixed-wing UAV missions; supervise test activities and risk assessments.
• Analyze flight logs and weather data to improve mission reliability and safety margins.
• Coordinate with meteorology resources and integrate atmospheric sensing data for go/no-go decisions.
• Collaborate with science teams to validate mission profiles and sensor data quality.
• Manage ground control station operations and spectrum compliance during live missions.
• Document flight operations, incidents, and lessons learned for scalability.
