Job summary

Mr. Steam, Long Island City, NY, seeks a Senior Buyer / Procurement Specialist with direct supplier experience and strong negotiation skills.

You will manage supplier portfolios, handle ROQs and pricing, support inventory planning, and collaborate across production, quality, engineering, and warehouse teams in a hands-on manufacturing setting. You will own material lifecycle from purchasing through delivery, with opportunities to expand responsibilities and advance toward a Senior Buyer role.

Qualifications

• Direct supplier communication and relationship ownership.
• Experience with RFQs, quotations, and routine negotiations.
• Understanding how demand, inventory, lead times, and supplier commitments influence purchasing decisions.
• Ability to act independently on routine matters and escalate higher-risk issues.
• Willingness to work fully onsite in Long Island City and participate in hands-on material activities.

Responsibilities

• Manage an assigned portfolio of materials and suppliers.
• Create and maintain purchase orders, quantities, pricing, delivery dates, and documentation.
• Solicit supplier quotations and compare pricing, lead times, terms, and other considerations.
• Negotiate routine pricing, delivery, lead-time, and other supplier terms.
• Interpret demand, inventory levels, open POs, and production priorities.
• Identify shortages, late deliveries, and supplier risks before production impact.
• Communicate with suppliers regarding status, pricing discrepancies, and issue resolution.
• Coordinate returns, rework, credits, RMAs, and supplier corrective actions.
• Participate in cycle counts and inventory-discrepancy resolution.
• Work with production, quality, engineering, receiving, and warehouse on issues.
• Identify alternate sources and participate in supplier evaluation and sourcing.
• Document cost savings, cost avoidance, and supplier-performance improvements.
• Escalate high-risk or nonstandard issues with analysis and recommended actions.
