Job Summary

The Senior Buyer evaluates requisitions for custom nonstandard items, confers with technical personnel on specifications and alternatives, determines the best sources of supply, and maintains commodity knowledge & market conditions to reduce component pricing. Establishes preferred suppliers, sets expectations, and collaborates with material planners to identify cost reduction opportunities.

Responsibilities and Tasks

• Lead electronic/electromechanical component purchasing teams to achieve results and meet delivery dates.
• Require technical knowledge of products, military specifications, and federal acquisition regulations.
• Determine and develop sources of supply based on supply base knowledge and product capabilities.
• Obtain quotes, negotiate prices, and draft fixed-price agreements.
• Manage vendor managed inventory (VMI) programs and control demand signals.
• Manage purchase order placement to support schedules and inventory goals.
• Ensure specifications and regulations are included in purchasing agreements.
• Coordinate with departments and suppliers to resolve delivery issues and meet production needs.
• Perform price analysis and identify cost reduction opportunities.
• Provide leadership and training for purchasing staff.
• Participate in continuous improvement activities and support leadership goals.

Minimum Education, Experience & Certifications

• High School diploma or GED required; 5-10 years of relevant experience may substitute a Bachelor's degree.
• 1-3 years of management experience required.

Skills and Abilities

• Experience in commodity management, electromechanical or electronic components, and aerospace or military industries.
• Knowledge of FAR/DFAR, fixed pricing agreements, vendor managed inventory, and ERP systems like Oracle.
