Overview

SUMMARY OF POSITION FUNCTION: Sr. Buyer role is responsible for implementing and executing strategic purchasing initiatives in alignment with company goals and objectives. Responsible for global sourcing within the raw material and packaging categories as well as co-packer management. Works closely with Supply Chain/Logistics, Finance, Quality, Sales, Product Development and Operations to ensure all business and customer needs are met. This role includes driving cost savings, managing inventory levels, supplier quality as well as supplier performance and improvement. Will be expected to analyze market trends, assess supplier performance, and evaluate proposals, negotiate and make informed decisions. The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker coupled with excellent communication skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced & multifaceted environment.

Essential / Major Duties and Responsibilities

• Manage purchasing spend of approximately $35 million.
• Monitor and track all relevant commodity markets.
• Source, review bids, negotiate, contract and report out for all required materials.
• Build/maintain positive relationships with suppliers.
• Assist Quality on supplier audits as needed.
• Think creatively and critically as well as challenge market/material assumptions.
• Proactively review spend and identify opportunities for cost/resource savings.
• Identify opportunities to increase efficiencies/reduce costs without sacrificing quality or service.
• Work closely with Supply Chain to ensure production needs are met based on sales & forecast.
• Perform supplier risk analysis and review supplier performance through supplier scorecard.
• Ensure supplier quality and work closely with Quality Assurance to ensure all material non-conformance issues are resolved in a timely fashion.
• Create / Monitor / Manage all purchase orders for raw material and packaging requirements.
• Assist in invoice discrepancies and material holds.
• Coordinate with Logistics & Suppliers on movement of all purchased materials.
• Prepare and manage Request for Proposal (RFPs) for goods and services.
• Provide support to other departments for all MRO materials and services purchases & contracts.
• Maintain and keep up-to-date all supplier contracts as well as other required material and supplier documentation.
• Review and verify past due PO reports and contact suppliers to address overdue PO's.
• Manage purchasing for multiple co-manufacturers.
• Source newly identified material to meet R&D and customer needs.
• Create annual supplier scorecard and hold required supplier business reviews.
• Other duties as assigned by Management.

Education Requirements

• Associates Degree required.
• Certifications (preferred but not required): CSPM, CSCP, CPM.

Experience

• Minimum of 3 years purchasing experience (preferably in food manufacturing).
• Solid understanding of purchasing and supply chain mgmt.
• Strong relationship management, organizational and mathematical skills, as well as strategic reasoning and problem-solving skills.
