Job summary

Georgia-Pacific is seeking a contribution-motivated Senior Buyer to negotiate, purchase, and contract for equipment, materials, and services at our Naheola, AL facility. Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in procurement or related field or 5+ years procurement experience.
  • Minimum 3 years of procurement, project management, or related work experience.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and SharePoint.

Responsibilities

  • Manage purchase requisitions, purchase orders, contracts, and inventory in ERP to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Ensure purchasing documents reflect agreed terms: pricing, payment terms, freight, Incoterms.
  • Lead competitive sourcing activities, RFQs, bid evaluations, and supplier selection by total cost of ownership.
  • Act as purchasing lead with category management, legal, and site leadership on sourcing decisions.
  • Enforce supplier compliance with safety, environmental, and supplier requirements.
  • Build and manage strategic supplier relationships while monitoring market conditions and supply risk.

Georgia-Pacific has an opening for a contribution-motivatedSenior Buyer at our facility in Naheola, Alabama.The Senior Buyeris responsible fornegotiating,purchasing, andcontracting forequipment, materials, supplies, support services, and capital project management services in a fast-paced environment. The Senior Buyer works with the mill’s requestors to understand requirements including specifications, service needs, performance expectations, and scheduling. The individual is knowledgeable about national, regional, and local contract agreements and ensures compliance with applicable corporate and local policies, guidelines, and legal requirements of contract law. The right individual will be proactive and use asolutions-based approach.

This role reports directly to the Purchasing Manager, and will sit onsite at our facility in Naheola, AL.

What You Will Do
  • Manage purchase requisitions, purchase orders, contracts, and inventory transactions within ERP system to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Ensure all purchasingdocuments reflect agreed commercial terms, including pricing, payment terms, freight, and Incoterms.
  • Lead competitive sourcing activities, RFQs, bid evaluations, and negotiations; select suppliers based on total cost of ownership.
  • Act as a purchasing lead and liaison with category management, legal, and site leadership on key sourcing and contracting decisions.
  • Enforce supplier compliance with safety, environmental, purchasing, and preferred supplier requirements.
  • Build and manage strategic supplier relationships while monitoring market conditions and supply risk.
  • Represent site procurement in regional and national sourcing initiatives
  • Deliver cost savings and cost avoidance through negotiations, supplier consolidation, value engineering, and demand management.
  • Manage supplier delivery performance, expedite materials, and support emergency sourcing to protect plant operations.
  • Resolve issues related to inventory discrepancies, goods receipts, invoicing, and ERP errors.
  • Review Single Source Justifications to ensure strategic alignment and mitigate cost and supply risk.
  • Effectively prioritize workload to meet multiple deadlines and business objectives.
Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)
  • Bachelor’s degree in procurement or related field OR a high school diploma with 5+ years of procurement experience.
  • At least 3 years of procurement, project management, or related work experience.
  • Proficient skills utilizing Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and SharePoint.
  • Experience in contract negotiations, labor rate reviews, and supplier relationship management.
What Will Put You Ahead
  • Purchasing experience in the pulp & paper industry or within a manufacturing environment
  • Working knowledge of SAP/S4 HANA or similar ERP system
  • Working knowledge of Ariba Sourcing and Contracting
  • Working knowledge of Ariba Supplier Invoice Management
  • Knowledge of P2P (procure-to-pay) process that integrates purchasing & accounts payable and experience with invoice reconciliations.
  • Microsoft Excel skills to include pivot tables, logic formulas, and data visualization tools
