Job summary

Urschel, a world-renowned manufacturer of industrial cutting equipment, seeks a Senior Buyer to join our Chesterton, Indiana-based Procurement team. You will manage commodities such as raw materials, motors, and electrical enclosures, reporting to the Procurement Manager.

The ideal candidate has 5+ years of procurement experience in manufacturing and strong communication and negotiation skills, with some travel required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in supply chain or business preferred.
• Minimum 5 years of procurement experience in manufacturing.
• Strong oral and written communication and negotiation skills.

Responsibilities

• Manage assigned commodities and maintain planning parameters, inventory requirements, and supplier lead times.
• Execute purchasing activities from PO through receipt, including invoice resolution and supplier returns.
• Monitor supplier performance, market conditions, and relationships.
• Support sourcing, supplier selection, cost reduction, and other purchasing initiatives.
• Coordinate machine-delivery requests and pursue process improvements.

Job description

Urschel, a 100% employee-owned company, is seeking a Senior Buyer to join our Procurement team. Reporting to the Procurement Manager, the Senior Buyer is responsible for procurement activities related to complex and critical commodities, including raw materials, motors, and electrical enclosures. This position is not remote and will be required to report daily to the Corporate Headquarters in Chesterton, Indiana.

Urschel employee-owners design and manufacture industrial cutting equipment for food processing and allied industries around the world from our global headquarters located in Chesterton, Indiana, U.S.A. Consumers purchase goods manufactured on Urschel cutting equipment on a daily basis. Advanced manufacturing technologies are utilized at our climate controlled, clean, and environmentally conscious facility.

Job Duties:

• Manage assigned commodities and maintain planning parameters, inventory requirements, and supplier lead times to support business needs.
• Execute purchasing activities from purchase order through receipt, including invoice resolution and supplier returns.
• Monitor supplier performance, market conditions, and relationships.
• Support sourcing, supplier selection, cost reduction, and other purchasing initiatives.
• Coordinate machine-delivery requests and pursue process, efficiency, and documentation improvements.

A Bachelor’s degree in supply chain or business is preferred. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 5 years’ Procurement experience in a manufacturing environment and have an aptitude for effective oral and written communication. The candidate should be able to facilitate negotiations and demonstrate strong decision-making skills. Analytical and creative thinking skills, strong computer skills, attention to detail, ability to work independently, and presentation skills are essential. Some travel will be required.
