Job summary

Excelitas Technologies Corp. in Boulder, CO seeks a Senior Buyer to drive supply chain initiatives for new product introductions, optimize supplier performance, and align cross-functional teams.

You will manage supplier selection, negotiate terms, release materials, and monitor inventory and shipments. Ideal candidates will have 5+ years of purchasing experience, familiarity with ERP (SAP preferred), and strong analytical and communication skills.

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in Supply Chain Management, Materials Management, Production and Operations Management or related field preferred.
  • APICS certifications a plus.
  • 5+ years of purchasing experience, defense and/or optics experience a plus.
  • Familiar with ITAR compliance and procurement of materials for defense products a plus.
  • Experience in new product implementation environment and low volume purchasing preferred.
  • Purchasing experience in an ERP environment. SAP is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Procure materials by working with Project Managers, Engineers, Document, Inventory and Quality control groups.
  • Identify suppliers capable of meeting specifications, lead times and quality requirements.
  • Negotiate pricing and delivery schedules; facilitate contract and terms & conditions negotiations.
  • Release new materials and maintain pricing, lead times and purchasing parameters in ERP and Document Control systems.
  • Issue purchase orders and manage open orders with emphasis on data accuracy.
  • Monitor open PO status and ensure on-time deliveries.
  • Maintain shipment tracking and supplier performance data.
  • Report potential shortages and delays; coordinate with cross-functional teams to resolve issues.
  • Define priorities for suppliers to meet customer and internal requirements.
  • Be the primary interface for technical, quality and FAI discussions with sources of supply.
  • Assist in developing and documenting Supply Chain and Purchasing processes for New Product Introductions.
  • Support ERP transition to SAP as subject matter expert.
  • May perform buyer/planner roles for new product introductions.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies and procedures.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Complete special projects as requested by Management.

Job description

Senior Buyer


We are presently seeking a Senior Buyer who will be responsible for driving supply chain initiatives that support new product introductions, fostering strong cross‑functional alignment, and optimizing supplier performance.


Responsibilities


  • Works closely and collaboratively with Project Managers, Engineers, Document, Inventory and Quality control groups to procure materials.

  • Identifies new and existing suppliers capable of meeting materials specifications, quality requirements and lead times to successfully support production schedules and meeting customer commitments.

  • Requests quotations, negotiates pricing and delivery schedules. Facilitates contract and T&C negotiations.

  • Compiles quotes comparison matrices and collaborates with project managers for optimal supplier selection.

  • Releases new materials and maintains pricing, lead time and purchasing parameters in the ERP and Document Control systems.

  • Issues purchase orders and manages open orders in the ERP system with emphasis on data accuracy.

  • Monitors open purchase orders to ensure on‑time deliveries.

  • Maintains purchase order status and shipment tracking information.

  • Proactively reports potential shortages and availability issues to project managers, manufacturing & planning organizations and works with suppliers to resolve delays.

  • Establishes priorities for assigned suppliers to meet customer (internal or external) requirements.

  • Acts as primary interface between internal customers and source of supply in technical, quality and FAI discussions.

  • Controls the inventory of assigned products in accordance with customer requirements and management objectives.

  • Processes returns of non‑conforming products to suppliers.

  • Supports other members of the Purchasing team as needed through cross training and flexing as workload dictates.

  • Will help define, develop and document Supply Chain and Purchasing processes for New Program Introductions.

  • Will be subject matter expert and provide direction for the purchasing aspects of the ERP transition to SAP.

  • May be required to perform as a buyer/planner role in a new product introduction.

  • Ensures compliance with company operating policies and procedures.

  • Contributes to continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Completes special projects and assignments as requested by Management.


Qualifications


  • Undergraduate degree in Supply Chain Management, Materials Management, Production and Operations Management, Purchasing, Engineering, Business Administration, Finance or other related field preferred.

  • APICS certifications a plus.

  • Demonstrated expertise in Material Requirements Planning (MRP) systems, with deep functional knowledge to optimize inventory, production scheduling, and supply chain efficiency.

  • 5+ years of purchasing experience, defense and/or optics experience a plus.

  • Familiar with ITAR compliance and procurement of materials for defense products a plus.

  • Demonstrated skills in sourcing, purchasing, contract negotiation, and supplier management.

  • Experience in new product implementation environment and low volume purchasing preferred.

  • Knowledge and understanding of production operations, purchasing, and inventory planning.

  • Problem‑solving skills, including logical thought processes with the ability to resolve complex issues.

  • Self‑motivated with the ability to successfully and simultaneously manage multiple tasks, meet multiple deadlines, and work with minimal direct supervision.

  • Ability to organize and prioritize daily work.

  • Purchasing experience in an ERP environment. SAP is a plus.

  • Advanced computer skills are required. Solid skills in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint). In‑depth Excel knowledge.

  • Strong analytical skills. Data collection and report creation experience.

  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.

  • Project Management experience a plus.

  • Strong leadership skills.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Strong team player with proven ability to facilitate collaboration in cross regional and multi‑cultural teams.

  • Ability to travel up to 10% of the time.

Pay Range

$85,000 - $115,000 annually, depending on experience.

Boulder, Colorado. This facility specializes in the manufacturing of ultra‑precision optical components, optical thin‑film coatings, and optical sub‑assemblies for demanding applications in lasers, materials processing, instrumentation, life sciences, avionics, and defense. Comprehensive optical fabrication and coating capabilities, advanced assembly technology, and an extensive in‑house metrology lab.


This position requires the use of information which is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).
