Senior Business Risk & Controls Advisor - Sales & FCIAM Risk Advisor

Overview

This is a remote role that may be hired in several markets across the United States. As a first line of defense risk professional, this position is responsible for Business Unit (BU) risk activities in adherence with the Company's Risk Appetite and Corporate Strategy. Supports the management of business risks and controls across all risk types. Enables and/or monitors execution of risk policies, standards, procedures, and program requirements. Provides advisory services to manage risks. Facilitates effective communication between the business, the 2nd & 3rd line, and regulators. Influences achievement of shared department goals. Acts as a mentor to associates.

Responsibilities
  1. Risk Strategic Activities: Works with Business Risk & Controls leader and senior management to oversee risk management strategies, ensuring key risks are appropriately managed and aligned. Provides BU risk considerations for business/strategic plans. Reviews and challenges risk program outputs, ensuring bank, framework, and regulatory alignment.
  2. Business Risk Management Support: Supports the execution and implementation of policies, standards, and procedures with BU associates in alignment with the Company's risk management framework. Aids the business in identifying risks & control gaps. Leads the tracking and resolution of issues, ensuring timely escalation and remediation. Collaborates with BU and stakeholders to develop and execute action plans and mitigation strategies. Monitors the effectiveness of issue remediation efforts, providing updates and reports to senior management. Coordinates with other functions like Compliance and 2LOD to ensure alignment with broader risk management and governance objectives. Supports prioritization and capacity assessment, ensuring resource alignment with strategic objectives. Maintains a deep understanding of the organization's business environment, including industry markets, products, services, client-base, and competitive landscape. Interprets and operationalizes 2nd line requirements for the business area. Collaborates with cross-functional teams to assess impacts of external factors such as regulatory changes and market disruptions.
  3. Regulatory and Internal Audit Engagement: Participates in regulatory and Internal Audit inquiries, examinations, and audits. Supports regulatory submissions, responses, and reporting requirements, ensuring accuracy and timeliness. Monitors regulatory developments and assesses their impact on the organization's risk profile and compliance.
  4. Risk Governance & Reporting: Develops BU risk reports providing a comprehensive view of risks. Monitors BU risk and control performance. Manages and summarizes top and emerging risks and actions. Reports key indicators and breaches as per the Risk Appetite Framework. Advises BU leadership on risk governance. Provides feedback on governance documents and drives policy and standards implementation. Ensures timely communication of issues and regulatory changes.
Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree and 8 years of experience in Financial Services, First Line Risk Management, Enterprise Risk, or Operational Risk

High School Diploma or GED and 12 years of relevant experience
Preferred: Finance or Risk Management studies; Project Management, Consulting experience; Certifications like CRCM, PMP, CERP, CAMS, CISA, CRISC.

  • Knowledge of risk techniques, practices, and control frameworks
  • Understanding of banking and government regulatory requirements
  • Ability to work effectively with various stakeholders
