Job summary

Safelite is seeking a Senior BI Engineering and Data Manager to lead the technical execution of enterprise analytics initiatives and build a high‑performing BI Engineering and Data Products organization. You will set architecture for scalable BI platforms, partner with Data and IT teams, and translate priorities into durable roadmaps that deliver trusted analytics at scale.

This role requires 7–9 years in data analytics or data engineering, 4–6 years leading technical teams, and strong SQL,

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, analytics, or related field.
  • 7-9 years hands on experience in a data engineering or analytics related role.
  • 4-6 years managing a technical team.
  • 7-9 years Advanced SQL development, including complex transformations, performance optimization, and data modeling.
  • 4-6 years Experience with modern cloud data warehouses (e.g., Snowflake or similar).
  • 4-6 years Experience using Python or other programming languages for data transformation, automation, or analytics workflows.
  • 4-6 years Experience with modern analytics engineering tools (e.g., dbt, FiveTran) and CI/CD practices.
  • Expert-level SQL knowledge, including advanced query optimization, window functions, CTEs, nested queries, and complex transformations used in enterprise analytics workflows.
  • Advanced proficiency in Python or similar programming languages for analytics engineering, automation, workflow orchestration, and operational reporting.
  • Ability to technically scope, decompose, and solve abstract analytical problems by translating ambiguous business needs into well‑defined BI engineering designs using computer science and analytics engineering principles.
  • Deep knowledge of BI and analytics engineering architecture, including the design and evolution of governed semantic layers, metrics frameworks, and reusable analytics components.
  • Strong understanding of data warehouse architecture and data modeling best practices, including dimensional modeling, performance optimization, and alignment with upstream ingestion patterns.
  • Experience leading teams responsible for enterprise BI platforms, dashboards, and downstream data products built on governed semantic layers.
  • Ability to lead technical scoping, estimation, and business case refinement, including defining and comparing quantifiable value, complexity, and architectural impact across analytics use cases.
  • Demonstrated people management skills, including coaching, performance management, mentoring senior technical talent, and workforce development.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to translate between business objectives and technical design decisions.
  • Sound architectural judgment to balance near‑term delivery with long‑term scalability, maintainability, and platform consistency.
  • Experience administering and governing BI platforms (e.g., Tableau Cloud), including site management, permissions, content organization, certification, automation, and enforcement of reporting standards.
  • Familiarity with modern data engineering tools, CI/CD concepts, and version control practices as they relate to analytics engineering and BI workflows.

Responsibilities

A Brief Overview

The Senior Manager of BI Engineering and Data Products will lead the technical execution of complex, enterprise analytics initiatives and build a high-performing BI Engineering and Data Products organization.

This position will set technical and architectural direction for scalable, governed BI platforms and data products, partner closely with Data Engineering and IT engineering teams to solve ambiguous problems, and translate enterprise priorities into durable roadmaps that deliver trusted analytics outcomes at scale.

Expected Work Location (In Office): It is expected that you will primarily perform work at the Safelite Home Office (7400 Safelite Way, Columbus, OH 43235). You are required to work in the office at least 4 days a week. Changes to work location arrangements are subject to managerial approval and business needs. #LI-Onsite #LI-JR2

What You Will Do

Provide technical and people leadership for the BI Engineering and Data Products team: Sets architectural direction and governs BI engineering standards to ensure scalable, reliable analytics solutions. Deconstructs complex or legacy reporting workflows and guides the application of computer science and analytics engineering principles to ensure solutions are performant, extensible, and maintainable.

Oversee BI pipeline engineering quality and delivery: Ensures end‑to‑end quality of BI pipelines from semantic and metrics layers through dashboards and downstream data products by establishing and enforcing standards for data modeling, testing, documentation, version control, and CI/CD. Drives consistent engineering practices to improve reliability, scalability, and speed of analytics delivery.

Design and evolve BI semantic and reporting architecture: Leads the design and continuous improvement of shared semantic layers, metrics frameworks, and reusable BI components. Partners closely with Data Engineering and IT engineering teams to align BI solutions with enterprise data platforms, ingestion patterns, and architectural standards, enabling scalable self‑service analytics.

Define and communicate business and technical value of BI initiatives: Quantifies the impact of BI solutions and communicates value to Product, Engineering, and Business leaders to inform prioritization, sequencing, and investment decisions. Ensures BI roadmaps balance business outcomes, technical complexity, and architectural alignment.

Establish and oversee BI platform governance and operations: Directs governance and operational management of BI platforms, including Tableau Cloud administration, access controls, content certification, automation, and quality monitoring. Ensures BI platforms operate as stable, well‑governed engineering systems with clear ownership and observability.
