Job summary

Kainos Innovative Solutions in Houston, TX seeks a Senior Business Analyst with commodity/energy market data experience to bridge business users and data delivery teams. You will translate needs into detailed requirements, coordinate with data engineering and offshore resources, and ensure accuracy through QA and UAT.

Responsibilities include validating datasets, defining data sources and calculations, and supporting migrations and new integrations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or higher in Business, Finance, Economics, Information Systems, CS, Engineering, Mathematics, or related discipline.
• Experience as a Business Analyst, BSA, or similar role supporting data, analytics, or tech delivery.
• Strong knowledge of commodity markets and Commercial data and analytics.
• Understanding of commodity market data, fundamentals, pricing, forward curves, and related workflows.
• Experience translating business needs into detailed functional and data requirements with acceptance criteria.
• Experience working with data engineers, developers, or other technical delivery resources.
• Experience performing data QA, reconciliation, source-to-target validation, testing, and UAT.
• Working knowledge of SQL for data investigation and validation.
• Strong Excel and analytical skills with complex datasets.
• Strong problem-solving and attention to detail.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a day-to-day liaison between Commercial users and data engineering, analytics, and other technical delivery resources.
• Gather, analyze, and document business, functional, data, reporting, and analytics requirements for assigned initiatives.
• Translate business needs into detailed requirements, user stories, acceptance criteria, business rules, data mappings, calculations, and process documentation.
• Apply knowledge of commodity markets and Commercial data and analytics, including market data, pricing, forward curves, fundamentals, trading and risk data, and analytical workflows.
• Define requirements for data sources, definitions, transformations, calculations, frequency, granularity, history, and expected outputs.
• Coordinate day-to-day implementation with data engineering and offshore resources, providing business context and clarifying requirements.
• Review delivered functionality and data against documented requirements and acceptance criteria.
• Perform detailed QA and validation of datasets, data pipelines, reports, calculations, and outputs for accuracy and timeliness.
• Perform source-to-target validation and data reconciliation and investigate discrepancies with technical teams.
• Document defects and requirements gaps and coordinate remediation and retesting.
• Coordinate user acceptance testing and support validation and final sign-off.
• Support data migrations, new data integrations, reporting and analytics enhancements, and modernization of workflows.
• Track requirements, issues, dependencies, and risks and provide status to leadership.
• Collaborate with analysts, engineers, architects, developers, vendors, and stakeholders as part of the delivery team.
