Job summary

The City of Abilene seeks a Building Official to manage the Building Inspections division within the Planning and Development Services Department. You will supervise inspectors, ensure compliance with adopted building codes, and resolve code and permit issues with developers, contractors, and the public.

This role also supports boards and commissions and leads budgeting and policy development. Requirements include four years of building inspections experience with two years in supervision, a

Qualifications

• Four years of progressively responsible experience in building inspections with at least two years in supervision.
• High school diploma or GED required; college degree preferred.
• Must possess a Texas driver's license or ability to obtain within 90 days.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate staffing and operations for plan reviews and inspections.
• Maintain records of inspections and plan reviews with administrative staff.
• Develop and manage division goals, policies, and budget.
• Supervise, train, and evaluate Building Inspections personnel.
• Coordinate staff training and corrective action plans as needed.
• Interact with architects, engineers, contractors, and the public on division matters.
• Present reports to boards, committees, and City Council.
