Job Summary
Under the general supervision of the Trades and Projects Coordinator, the Senior Building Maintenance Worker‑Warehouse will perform routine semi‑skilled and skilled building maintenance tasks in residence halls, dining halls, apartment complexes, administrative offices, and other related facilities.
The incumbent will be responsible for all shipping and receiving processed at the Facilities off‑campus warehouse, maintain warehouse inventory, and transport warehouse items to and from the warehouse and various campus/off‑campus locations.
The incumbent will also assist Skilled Crafts Workers in performing complex repairs and remodeling projects, and will interact effectively on a daily basis with other Facilities staff, Dining staff, student staff, and residential customers.

Job Duties
50% – Facility Repair and Maintenance
- Perform routine carpentry, plumbing, electrical, appliance, and mechanical repairs and preventative maintenance tasks.
- Diagnose problems, obtain necessary parts or supplies, make repairs, and complete required work order documentation using an online computer maintenance management system.
- Handle repairs such as replacement of lamps, switches, receptacles, light fixtures, plumbing fixtures, drain lines, lock hardware, door closers, furnaces, water heaters, thermostats, furniture, and tools.
- Train and direct student assistants in routine maintenance tasks, including minor repairs and interior painting.
- Be cross‑trained to respond to maintenance needs in various campus‑housing areas as required.
35% – Inventory and Warehouse Maintenance
- Log incoming and outgoing shipments from the off‑campus warehouse and update inventory registers.
- Assist in performing random and annual inventory counts, reconciling actual counts against computer records.
- Inspect incoming items and packing slips against material orders to determine accuracy.
- Store and label all incoming furniture and equipment in correct locations; arrange existing stock to allow new inventory placement.
- Contact UCSC personnel to deliver inventory items as needed.
- Purchase maintenance parts and supplies.
- Maintain a well‑organized and safe warehouse area; operate equipment such as carts, ladders, pallet jacks, forklifts, etc.
5% – Maintenance Painting
- Prepare and paint interior and exterior surfaces using brush, roller, and airless sprayer.
- Train student facilities assistants in proper painting techniques and direct the work of student painting crews.
- Hang or repair drywall, including taping and texturing.
5% – Furniture and Equipment Moving and Assembly
- Move furniture and equipment as needed.
- Assemble and disassemble residential furniture.
- Deliver appliances and other items stored at the warehouse to various campus locations.
5% – Miscellaneous Duties
- Assist skilled crafts workers with complex maintenance, renovation, and construction projects.
- Pick up supplies from retailers and deliver them to Facilities staff on campus and in Scotts Valley.
- Drive campus‑owned or personal vehicles to perform pickups and deliveries within locations.
- Support unit recycling and energy‑management programs.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Basic knowledge and demonstrated skill in routine plumbing, electrical, and carpentry repair and troubleshooting.
- Knowledge of basic electrical theory and safe practices for performing electrical repairs.
- Demonstrated skill in the safe use of hand and power tools such as drills, saws, sewer rodders, and power sanders.
- Demonstrated skill and experience in interior and exterior painting and drywall repair.
- Knowledge of warehouse and delivery operations, including proper recording of receipts and issuance of materials/supplies in a large institutional environment.
- Ability to work under minimal supervision and follow written and oral instructions.
- Good judgment to ensure safe lifting and movement of material; request assistance or use equipment for heavy loads.
- Computer skills sufficient to use an online computerized maintenance management system and update work orders.
- Proficiency with personal computer productivity tools, including word processing, email, and web browsers.
- Interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively with residents, staff, and faculty.
- Basic arithmetic skills for maintenance, record‑keeping, and inventory tasks.
- Ability to instruct student maintenance assistants in basic repair tasks.
- Capacity to prioritize work and communicate progress to supervisors.
- Ability to work cooperatively with people from diverse backgrounds.

- Must pass a pre‑employment criminal history background check.

- Ability to perform overhead work and repetitive tasks.
- Ability to work from step ladders and extension ladders.
- Ability to safely move 50 lb. with or without accommodations, and up to 70 lb. for heavy manual tasks such as furniture and supplies.
- Ability to work safely in areas with hazardous materials.
- Must possess a valid California driver’s license and participate in the DMV pull‑notice program.
- Must complete required training within established time frames, including UC compliance training.
- Must comply with the University of California vaccination policy.
- Must be a mandated reporter under the Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act (CANRA) and sign the required statement.
