Job description

Build the future, spark innovation, and align your career with purpose.

McKinstry is innovating the waste and climate harm out of the built environment and creating lasting impact. Together, we're building a thriving planet.

Buildings are a leading contributor to the climate crisis, generating nearly 40% of total global energy-related carbon emissions. We're making a lasting impact on our industry and within our communities by addressing the climate, affordability, and equity crises through:

  • renewables and energy services
  • engineering and design
  • construction and facility services

To get where we're going, we need big thinkers, problem solvers, and collaborative mindsets. Does that sound like you?

The Opportunity with McKinstry:

We are currently seeking a Senior Building Energy Engineer to join McKinstry as part of our growing Technical Services Midwest team. McKinstry supports clients and their facilities throughout the lifecycle of a building; the Technical Services team focuses on optimizing and increasing energy efficiency of existing buildings through a consultative approach. We work directly with owners to help them make effective decisions that improve efficiency, occupant comfort, and building lifespan.

In this role, you will be a front-line energy engineer on high-impact energy and facility optimization consulting projects, owning the delivery of outcome-oriented solutions. You will leverage your experience in problem solving, systems analysis, data analysis, and communication to promote sustainability and efficiency for schools, university campuses, hospitals, data centers, and other facilities.

Communication and collaboration are key, often requiring partnership with other McKinstry teams to deliver effective results. You will be responsible for making technical recommendations, building actionable reports, presenting them to clients, and assisting with implementation.

If you're passionate about driving sustainability in the built environment and want to make a significant impact with your technical expertise, this role may be perfect for you!

What You Need to Succeed at McKinstry:
  • BA/BS degree in Engineering, Architecture, Facilities Management, Environmental Science, or related field; master's degree is a plus.

  • 3-5 years' experience in client-focused building energy consulting.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical and controls systems (e.g., Siemens, JCI, ATS).
  • Exceptional time management skills to handle multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • Creative problem-solving skills with a focus on customer service and a consultative approach.
