Job summary

Blue Signal Search is seeking a Senior Building Efficiency Engineer to lead technical initiatives that optimize facility operations across a diverse portfolio of commercial and institutional projects.

In a hybrid work environment, you will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams through design, construction, and post-occupancy phases to deliver measurable improvements in sustainability, energy performance, occupant comfort, and operational excellence.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering from ABET-accredited program or equivalent.
  • Experience with commercial or institutional building systems and projects.
  • Experience evaluating building performance and supporting improvement initiatives.
  • Strong understanding of commercial building systems and related engineering principles.
  • Proficiency with technical software, analytical tools, and industry-standard equipment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interact directly with clients and project teams.
  • Ability to balance office responsibilities with field work at client facilities.

Responsibilities

  • Lead building performance assessments and energy evaluations for new and existing facilities.
  • Review building operations and system performance to recommend practical improvements and enhancements.
  • Conduct commissioning activities including system verification, functional performance testing, and field observations.
  • Review facility systems and operations to identify opportunities for improved overall performance.
  • Develop engineering documentation, reports, and technical recommendations to support building performance initiatives.
  • Evaluate mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems to improve system reliability, occupant comfort, and energy performance.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams throughout design, construction, and post-occupancy phases.
  • Review technical data and performance metrics to support building improvement initiatives.
  • Present technical findings and recommendations to clients, project teams, and stakeholders in a clear and actionable manner.
  • Support technical and financial evaluations to help guide project planning and decision-making.
  • Stay current with evolving building codes, industry standards, commissioning practices, and energy technologies.
  • Mentor junior engineering staff while contributing to a collaborative and knowledge-sharing environment.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related technical discipline from an ABET accredited program, or equivalent combination of education and applicable experience.
  • Demonstrated experience working with commercial or institutional building systems and engineering projects.
  • Experience evaluating building performance and supporting technical improvement initiatives.
  • Strong understanding of commercial building systems and related engineering principles
  • Proficiency with technical software, analytical tools, and industry-standard equipment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interact directly with clients and project teams.
  • Ability to balance office responsibilities with field work at client facilities.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Professional engineering certification or the ability to obtain relevant credentials is preferred
  • Progress toward or possession of credentials such as Certified Energy Manager (CEM), Certified Commissioning Authority (CxA), Certified Commissioning Professional (CCP), Professional Engineer (PE), or comparable industry certifications.
  • Experience supporting initiatives focused on improving building performance and operational efficiency
  • Knowledge of building performance principles and industry best practices.
