The Building People, LLC, has a position open for a full-time Senior Building Controls Technician to provide services related to the expansion, upgrade, or replacement of building automation hardware and software for smart building infrastructure. The position involves working independently to meet project requirements with limited supervision, including programming, configuring, and testing Direct Digital Control (DDC) building automation and control systems.

Responsibilities/Duties
  • Design and engineer control system hardware and software programming based on project plans, specifications, and other contract documents.
  • Program projects with varying levels of complexity.
  • Perform network troubleshooting, database troubleshooting, and repair programming.
  • Collaborate with the engineering team on system configuration, network and software requirements, graphics, programming, and sequences of operations.
  • Develop and configure sequences of operations, programming, graphics, database, network, and third-party system integrations.
  • Maintain accurate project documentation and redlines.
  • Provide owner training as required.
  • Execute system commissioning and functional testing.
  • Assist in installation of control hardware and startup of new hardware installations.
  • Provide project management assistance and interface directly with customers.
  • Supervise subcontractors and suppliers as needed.
  • Educate lower-level technicians through on-the-job training.
  • This position requires a minimum of 25% travel.
Required Skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • Programming skills and strong analytical abilities.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills.
  • Experience with electronics and basic electrical circuits.
  • Understanding and ability to use appropriate tools.
  • Excellent customer service and teamwork skills.
  • Knowledge of DDC Control Theory and Applications related to HVAC.
  • Strong knowledge of DDC communications protocols such as BACnet, LON, Modbus, etc.
Required Experience/Education
  • At least 3 years of experience with programming, startup, and commissioning control systems.
  • Niagara N4 certification.
  • Experience with multiple control manufacturers is a plus.
  • Technical knowledge of control equipment installation.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to climb overhead or crawl in spaces.
  • Willingness to work at heights.
  • Ability to lift up to 35 pounds.
  • Background screening and clearance may be required.
  • Telework arrangements are subject to change based on customer needs.
