The Building People, LLC, has a position open for a full-time Senior Building Controls Technician to provide services related to the expansion, upgrade, or replacement of building automation hardware and software for smart building infrastructure. The position works independently to meet project requirements with limited supervision. The programmer will be responsible for programming, configuring, and testing Direct Digital Control (DDC) building automation and control systems.
Responsibilities/Duties
- Design and engineer control system hardware and software programming based on project plans, specifications, and other contract documents.
- Program projects with various levels of complexity.
- Perform network troubleshooting, database troubleshooting, and repair programming.
- Collaborate with the engineering team on system configuration, network and software requirements, graphics, programming, and sequences of operations.
- Develop and configure sequences of operations, programming, graphics, database, network, and integrations into third-party systems.
- Maintain accurate and thorough project documentation and redlines.
- Provide owner training as required by the project.
- Execute system commissioning and functional testing.
- Assist in installation of control hardware.
- Start up and commission new hardware installations.
- Provide project management assistance and interface directly with customers.
- Supervise subcontractors and suppliers as needed.
- Educate lower-level technicians through on-the-job training.
- This position requires a minimum of 25% travel.
Required Skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
- Programming skills.
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
- Experience with electronics and basic electrical circuits.
- Understanding and ability to use appropriate tools.
- Excellent customer service and teamwork skills.
- Knowledge of DDC Control Theory and Applications related to HVAC equipment.
- Strong knowledge of common DDC communication protocols such as BACnet, LON, Modbus, etc.
Required Experience/Education
- At least 3 years of experience with programming, startup, and commissioning of control systems.
- Niagara N4 certification.
- Experience with multiple manufacturers of controls is a plus.
- Technical knowledge of control equipment and ancillary devices installation.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to climb overhead or crawl under spaces.
- Willingness to work at heights.
- Ability to lift up to 35 pounds.
