Job summary

City of Irondale is seeking a well-qualified Building Inspections Officer to enforce building, plumbing, electrical, and gas codes and City zoning ordinances. This role ensures that existing and planned structures are safe for occupancy and use, and interact with contractors, tradespeople, homeowners and the public.

Qualifications

• Driver's license required.
• Experience interpreting plans and structures for building code compliance.
• Experience in electrical, plumbing, mechanical, carpentry or related construction areas.

Responsibilities

• Conducts building inspections following procedures to ensure code compliance and zoning adherence.
• Enforces codes by reviewing plans and performing inspections for safety.
• Reviews electrical and gas installations to verify plan compliance.
• Maintains records of permits, plans, approvals, and occupancy certificates.
• Ensures life safety, accessibility, and disaster-preparedness compliance.
• Oversees inspection-related fees and documentation for court cases.
