Ohio EPA Senior Budget Analyst

What we do:

At the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency, our primary goal is to protect the environment and public health. We do this by ensuring compliance with federal and state environmental laws.

What we need YOU to do:

The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency seeks a senior budget analyst to join the Fiscal Administration team at our Central Office in downtown Columbus.

Ideal candidate:

A proficient data analyst comfortable with spreadsheet and data management software, capable of complex financial analysis, reporting, and forecasting. Responsibilities include general accounting tasks such as journal entries, billings, cash draws, transfers, revenue deposits, and specific roles in accounts receivable systems, along with researching historical transactions.

In addition, you will create and submit federal financial reports for grants, analyze awards for compliance with grant and agency policies, respond to inquiries from the Ohio EPA eBusiness Center, and assist in the agency’s biennial budget process.

You will collaborate with various agency divisions, other state agencies, stakeholders, and customers, manage fee collection receipts, and calculate financial penalties for violations of environmental laws and regulations.

Main responsibilities include:

  1. Completing complex financial reporting and analysis.
  2. Performing general accounting tasks for accounts payable and receivable.
  3. Submitting federal financial reports for agency grants.
  4. Analyzing grant awards to ensure compliance with requirements and policies.
  5. Responding to customer inquiries from the Ohio EPA eBusiness Center.
  6. Participating in the agency’s biennial budget preparation.
  7. Collaborating with other divisions, agencies, stakeholders, and customers.

Qualifications:

  • Four years of experience in budgeting, including fiscal management and control involving quantitative/statistical analysis (e.g., probability statistics, linear regression, multiple variable regression, regression analysis models, trend analysis, forecasting, cost-benefit analysis).
  • Or a completed undergraduate core program in accounting, public finance, public administration, or business administration, with 24 months of relevant experience.
  • Or a completed graduate core program in the same fields, with 12 months of relevant experience.
  • Or 12 months of experience as a Budget Analyst, 63261.
  • Or equivalent qualifications as noted in the Minimum Class Qualifications for Employment.
