Position Summary

The Senior BSA/AML Analyst is responsible for independently managing and conducting complex investigations and performing risk-based reviews to ensure compliance with the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA), Anti-Money Laundering (AML) regulations, OFAC sanctions requirements, the USA PATRIOT Act, and related regulatory expectations. This position investigates and documents transaction monitoring alerts, conducts case investigations, performs enhanced due diligence reviews, and prepares or recommends Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs) when warranted. The Senior Analyst applies sound judgement, strong analytical skills, and a thorough understanding of financial crime risks to identify unusual activity, assess customer risk, and **escalate** concerns as appropriate. The role requires the ability to analyze large volumes of transactional and customer data, conduct open-source and negative news research, prepare clear and well-supported investigative narratives, and effectively communicate findings to management. The Senior Analyst also serves as a subject matter resource for team members, performs quality assurance and peer reviews of investigative work, assists with special projects and program enhancements, and supports continuous improvement efforts within the BSA/AML compliance program. Successful candidates will demonstrate strong attention to detail, organizational skills, regulatory knowledge, and the ability to manage multiple priorities while meeting established deadlines. The Senior BSA/AML Analyst is expected to independently manage complex investigations, provide guidance to other analysts, and contribute to the development and enhancement of BSA/AML processes, procedures, and controls.

  • Conduct complex investigations of BSA/AML transaction monitoring alerts, referrals, and cases to identify potential suspicious activity, assess customer risk, and determine appropriate disposition in accordance with regulatory requirements and Bank policy.
  • Analyze customer transactions, account activity, and behavioral patterns across consumer and commercial relationships to identify unusual or potentially suspicious activity, including but not limited to structuring, money laundering, fraud, sanctions evasion, and other financial crimes.
  • Prepare clear, comprehensive, and well-supported investigative case documentation that accurately summarizes research performed, findings, conclusions, and rationale for decisions, ensuring compliance with regulatory expectations and internal standards.
  • Investigate, draft, and prepare Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs) in a timely and accurate manner, including development of detailed narratives that clearly articulate the nature of the suspicious activity and supporting facts.
  • Perform quality assurance and peer review of alerts, investigations, and SARs to ensure consistency, accuracy, completeness, and adherence to regulatory requirements, internal procedures, and departmental quality standards.
  • Identify, evaluate, and elevate significant BSA/AML, fraud, sanctions, and reputational risks to management and other stakeholders, as appropriate, including recommendations for enhanced due diligence, account action, or SAR filing.
  • Conduct customer due diligence (CDD) and enhanced due diligence (EDD) reviews by analyzing customer profiles, ownership structures, source of funds, expected account activity, adverse media, and other risk-relevant information.

Job Type

This is a full-time, exempt position. Typical work hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm.

Physical Demands

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Criminal Justice, Accounting, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of BSA/AML, financial crimes compliance, investigations, or related banking experience, including experience conducting alert reviews, case investigations, and Suspicious Activity Report (SAR) preparation.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail with a high degree of accuracy, sound judgment, and commitment to quality in investigative documentation and regulatory reporting.
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify suspicious activity patterns, assess risk, and draw well-supported conclusions.
  • Effective time management and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple investigations, meet regulatory deadlines, and prioritize competing workloads.
  • Experience performing quality assurance, quality control, or peer review activities within a BSA/AML compliance program preferred.
  • Working knowledge of the Bank Secrecy Act, USA PATRIOT Act, Customer Due Diligence (CDD) requirements, and applicable FinCEN regulatory and reporting requirements.
  • Proficiency in researching, analyzing, and documenting investigative findings using transaction monitoring and case management systems.
  • CAMS, CFE, or comparable financial crimes certification, preferred.
