Job summary

French & Parrello Associates (FPA) in Wall Township, NJ, seeks an experienced Assistant Chief Engineer – Bridge to lead the Bridge Department, oversee design and rehabilitation, and mentor engineers across NJ and the region.

The role offers strategic direction, collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, and opportunities to shape a growing infrastructure practice while delivering high‑quality engineering solutions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering required; Master’s degree in Structural Engineering required.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license required; NJ, NY and/or PA PE preferred or reciprocity.
• 15+ years of progressive bridge design and structural engineering experience.
• Experience with complex bridge projects and rehabilitation work is a plus.
• Proficiency with bridge analysis software such as LEAP Bridge, LARSA, MIDAS, CSiBridge, STAAD, or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership for complex bridge design, rehabilitation, and transportation projects.
• Lead QA/QC reviews of bridge plans, calculations, specifications, and reports.
• Oversee structural analysis and design per AASHTO LRFD, NJDOT standards, and agency requirements.
• Guide bridge modeling, load rating analyses, and rehabilitation design efforts.
• Collaborate with project managers and multidisciplinary teams.
• Support business development, proposals, and client engagements.
• Mentor engineers within the Bridge Department and develop standards/best practices.
