Job description

Senior Bridge Engineer

In this role, you will:

  • Prepare bridge designs following FDOT PD&E process.
  • Work on projects that include bridges (steel plate girder, prestressed concrete, mobile, and moveable), box culverts, and interchange design for highway and railway projects.
  • Obtain your Florida Bridge Inspector team leader.
  • Perform bridge inspections as FDOT bridge inspection leader and work with Florida staff to establish a bridge inspection team to aid the national bridge inspection division.
  • Select standard bridge engineering/design procedures, develop structural details using specialized structural design and analysis software, perform structural load calculations, and assist with geometric layout and quantity development.
  • Review, assign work and/or check design calculations, estimates, and specifications produced by junior engineers and EITs.
  • Build relationships with and deliver work for local clients.
  • Assist Bridges and Structures Area Lead with management of bridge engineers.
  • Perform other duties as needed.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
  • A minimum of 10 years of structural engineering experience related to building design.
  • Professional engineering license recognized by the licensing board for the location of the position, or ability to obtain it within 6 months.
  • Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, RAM, ETABS, SAFE or similar analytical software.
  • Experience in design calculations and layouts.
  • Ability to design and detail in steel, concrete, masonry and wood.
  • Understanding of gravity analysis and lateral analysis.
  • Previous experience with an architectural/engineering or engineering consulting firm.
  • Commitment to being an active participant of our employee‑owned culture.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Structural Engineering or Civil Engineering with a structures emphasis.
  • Florida PE or ability to obtain within 6 months.
  • Experience working with FDOT and other DOTs.
  • Familiarity with Bluebeam Revu and engineering software packages such as LEAP Bridge Enterprise, FB‑MultiPier, LPile, AASHTOWare BrR, midas Civil, MDX, SAP2000, CSiBridge, RM Bridge, spColumn, STLBridgeLRFD, or STLBridge.
  • Knowledge of ADINA, LUSAS, Bentley OpenBridge Designer and OpenBridge Modeler and/or Autodesk Infraworks and Civil3D.
  • Experience using structural analysis programs and bridge design software.
  • Experience preparing project scope, fee, and schedule.
  • Experience in project pursuits.
  • Experience managing junior staff.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office software, AutoCAD and MicroStation.
