Job summary

HDR is seeking an experienced Structural Engineer in Fort Lauderdale, FL. You will prepare bridge designs, perform inspections, and mentor junior staff. The ideal candidate should have at least a Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering and 10 years of related experience.

Job description

Responsibilities
  • Prepare bridge designs following FDOT PD&E process.
  • Work on projects that typically include bridges (steel plate girder, prestressed concrete, and movable), box culverts, and interchange design for highway and railway projects.
  • Obtain certification as Florida Bridge Inspector team leader.
  • Perform bridge inspections as FDOT bridge inspection leader and collaborate with Florida staff to establish a bridge inspection team for the national bridge inspection division.
  • Select standard bridge engineering/design procedures, develop structural details using specialized structural design and analysis software, perform structural load calculations, and assist with geometric layout and quantity development.
  • Review, assign work, and/or check design calculations, estimates, and specifications produced by junior engineers and EITs.
  • Mentor junior staff.
  • Build relationships with and deliver work for local clients.
  • Assist Bridges and Structures Area Lead with the management of bridge engineers.
  • Perform other duties as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Structural Engineering or Civil Engineering with a structures emphasis.
  • Florida PE or ability to obtain within six months.
  • Florida DOT design experience.
  • Experience working with FDOT and other DOTs.
  • Familiarity with Bluebeam Revu and engineering software packages such as LEAP Bridge Enterprise, FB‑MultiPier, LPile, AASHTOWare BrR, midas Civil, MDX, SAP2000, CSiBridge, RM Bridge, spColumn, STLBridgeLRFD, or STLBridge.
  • Knowledge of ADINA, LUSAS, Bentley OpenBridge Designer, OpenBridge Modeler, and/or Autodesk Infraworks and Civil3D.
  • Experience using structural analysis programs and bridge design software.
  • Experience preparing project scope, fee, and schedule.
  • Experience in project pursuits.
  • Experience managing junior staff.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, and MicroStation.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
  • A minimum of 10 years of structural engineering experience related to building design.
  • Professional engineering license recognized by the licensing board for the location of the position offered (e.g., PE or P.Eng).
  • Experience with Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, RAM, ETABS, SAFE, or similar analytical software.
  • Experience in design calculations and layouts.
  • Ability to design and detail in steel, concrete, masonry, and wood.
  • Understanding of gravity and lateral analysis.
  • Previous experience with an architectural, engineering, or engineering consulting firm.
