About the Role

Stout Bookkeeping is growing, and we’re looking for a detail-driven Senior Bookkeeper to join our team part-time — with the opportunity to grow into a larger, client-facing role over time.

This position is ideal for someone who’s not looking for full-time hours right now, but still wants to do high-quality, meaningful work in a flexible and supportive environment. Maybe you're a parent, pivoting your career, or just ready to ditch the daily grind while still using your skills — if that’s you, we’d love to connect.

You'll handle client books behind the scenes while I continue to manage client communication — and for the right person, there’s a clear path to grow into an Account Manager role down the line.

Responsibilities

• Full-cycle bookkeeping for multiple clients using QuickBooks Online
• Monthly reconciliations, journal entries, and financial reports
• Sales and Use Tax filings across multiple states
• 1099 tracking and preparation throughout the year
• Maintain clean and compliant records using Financial Cents
• Proactively identify and resolve bookkeeping issues
• Communicate with the internal team to ensure smooth workflows
• Occasionally attend client site visits or in-person team meetings in North County San Diego (especially during onboarding)

What We’re Looking For

• 3+ years of professional bookkeeping or accounting experience (multi-client preferred)
• Strong QuickBooks Online experience required
• Sales and Use Tax filing experience required
• 1099 preparation experience required
• Excellent written and verbal communication
• Extremely detail-oriented and comfortable working independently
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field preferred (or equivalent real-world experience)
• Located in or near San Diego County and available for in-person training + occasional local visits
• Some availability during regular business hours (Pacific Time) for team check-ins

Bonus Points If You Have

• QuickBooks Online ProAdvisor certification
• Experience with Financial Cents and/or Gusto
• Familiarity with Profit First or similar cash flow systems
• Experience in industries like e-commerce, salons, construction, wellness, or restaurants
• California compliance experience (payroll tax, business licenses, etc.)
