Job summary

Barclays in Whippany, NJ seeks a Senior Blockchain Engineer VP – Digital Assets to design, build, and operate scalable blockchain infrastructure across Ethereum, Solana, Besu and other networks. You will deploy production platforms, manage connectors and RPC services, and partner with security, architecture and platform teams to deliver institutional-grade solutions.

The role focuses on high availability, performance tuning, and governance for tokenized deposits, stablecoins and securities

Qualifications

Job Description Purpose of the role

To build and maintain infrastructure platforms and products that support applications and data systems, using hardware, software, networks, and cloud computing platforms as required with the aim of ensuring that the infrastructure is reliable, scalable, and secure. Ensure the reliability, availability, and scalability of the systems, platforms, and technology through the application of software engineering techniques, automation, and best practices in incident response.

Accountabilities
  • Build Engineering: Development, delivery, and maintenance of high-quality infrastructure solutions to fulfil business requirements ensuring measurable reliability, performance, availability, and ease of use. Including the identification of the appropriate technologies and solutions to meet business, optimisation, and resourcing requirements.
  • Incident Management: Monitoring of IT infrastructure and system performance to measure, identify, address, and resolve any potential issues, vulnerabilities, or outages. Use of data to drive down mean time to resolution.
  • Automation: Development and implementation of automated tasks and processes to improve efficiency and reduce manual intervention, utilising software scripting/coding disciplines.
  • Security: Implementation of a secure configuration and measures to protect infrastructure against cyber-attacks, vulnerabilities, and other security threats, including protection of hardware, software, and data from unauthorised access.
  • Teamwork: Cross-functional collaboration with product managers, architects, and other engineers to define IT Infrastructure requirements, devise solutions, and ensure seamless integration and alignment with business objectives via a data driven approach.
  • Learning: Stay informed of industry technology trends and innovations, and actively contribute to the organization's technology communities to foster a culture of technical excellence and growth.

Senior Blockchain Engineer VP – Digital Assets

At Barclays, our vision is clear –to redefine the future of banking and help craft innovative solutions. In this role, you will join a team working at the ground floor of a 0-to-1 build. You will help design, build, and operate the blockchain infrastructure that powers Barclays’ next-generation Digital Assets Platform. This role focuses on deploying and managing institutional-grade blockchain networks and connectivity services that support crypto assets such as tokenized deposits, stablecoins, tokenized securities, and other regulated digital asset use cases. You will work across permissioned and open blockchain ecosystems, delivering resilient, secure, and scalable infrastructure while partnering closely with engineering, architecture, security, and platform teams to integrate blockchain capabilities into Barclays’ broader technology landscape.

To be successful as a Senior Blockchain Engineer VP – Digital Assets, you should have:
  • Experience building, deploying, and operating production blockchain platforms such as Ethereum, Solana, Besu, and /or other EVM-compatible technologies
  • Practical expertise configuring and managing blockchain network infrastructure, including bootnodes, validators, RPC services, peer management, consensus mechanisms, permissioning frameworks, and node lifecycle operations
  • Demonstrate experience integrating and operating connectors, relayers, bridges, or interoperability services between permissioned and open blockchain networks while understanding transaction finality, settlement models, and network-specific behaviors
  • Be comfortable designing and operating highly available blockchain infrastructure, including node monitoring, chain-data storage optimization, performance tuning, observability, disaster recovery, and operational resilience controls
Other highly valued skills include:
  • Experience building multi-chain abstraction layers, blockchain adaptors, wallet integrations, and platform services that simplify interaction across multiple distributed ledger technologies
  • Knowledge of token standards, onchain governance mechanisms, protocol upgrades, and blockchain network operations
  • Understanding of digital asset workflows, including tokenized deposits, stablecoins, custody, settlement, securities tokenization, and institutional blockchain-based financial services

This role is located in our Whippany, NJ office.

Minimum Salary: $170,000 Maximum Salary: $230,000 The minimum and maximum salary/rate information above includes only base salary or base hourly rate. It does not include any other type of compensation or benefits that may be available.
