Job summary

Stantec is seeking a consulting biologist with at least 10 years of experience to join our southern California Ecosystems Group, operating from offices including Monrovia. The Senior Biologist will work with biologists, ecologists, and regulatory experts on field and office tasks, project management, and permitting for energy, transportation, and development projects.

The candidate will oversee regulatory strategy, CEQA/NEPA analyses, and permitting, with emphasis on southern California flora

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred) in Biological Sciences, Environmental Science, Ecology, or related field.
• Minimum 10 years of experience with increasing levels of responsibility in biological resource surveys and technical reports.
• Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local environmental regulations relevant to southern California.
• Experience in CEQA/NEPA, permit applications, and regulatory coordination.
• Experience with field and office work, including regulatory permitting and project management.
• Experience with special-status species and regulatory frameworks is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Manage projects and supervise field teams for renewable energy, oil and gas, and other development projects.
• Lead field surveys (special-status species, nesting birds, vegetation mapping) and regulatory reporting.
• Develop and review technical reports and environmental assessments.
• Coordinate with clients and regulators to communicate results of surveys and reports.
• Lead permitting strategies and agency negotiations; contribute to proposals and business development.
• Travel as needed within southern California.
